Yes, Youtube is trying to clean up their hosted content. But here's a news flash.
YOUTUBE HAS ALWAYS BEEN TRYING TO CLEAN UP THEIR CONTENT!

They didn't "sell out." People used it to upload things they shouldn't, and they're just getting better at deleting the files as soon as they appear. What you're seeing is not "selling out", it's "getting better at finding violations." Natural evolution of content filtering when you use a service that's trying to be legitimate to do something illegal.
