I know some of you love the idea of fighting for five minutes where another class could get the job done in one. And I know some of you love your paladins because you could last forever in an instance helping your guildmates. But those of us expecting to get into fights found out the hard way that trying to do anything but healing (usually behind a bubble, natch) was a sure-fire way to gimp yourself into the ground.

I did the whole heal-and-fight thing with a Ret spec, I did the whole holy tank thing/reactive damage thing with a Prot spec. You know what I learned? WoW's paladin was not the class I wanted to play at all; I certainly didn't start expecting to play a healer. And after awhile, I quit the game altogether. I don't regret playing the game and in fact for awhile I really got into it... But the idea of grinding everything (and I mean flipping EVERYTHING) and spending all my time in the same damned instances every night just got lame.

Also, saying a paladin is the best healer in the game is a matter of perspective, especially considering a paladin's heal will either be slow or incredibly weak. Versus an intelligent opponent a paladin can be completely shut down rather quickly, the exception being the twelve seconds of almighty bubble. =/
You don't have to grind everything, and you don't have to play the same instance every night either. Way to exaggerate there.

Paladin heals are not slow, and they are not weak. The holy talent tree for Paladins has points to increase the healing output, and decrease the casting time of Holy Light, the Paladins big heal.

After a successful casting of Holy Light, the next cast made within 15 seconds will be shortened by .5 seconds. Meaning, that when you have to spam Holy Light, it lets you do so more quickly than when the castings are spaced further apart.

35% of the Paladin's total intellect stat is converted into bonus healing power, add that on top of any healing bonus from gear and you have some massive bonuses later in the game. When another party member heals a Paladin they receive 8% of the healing effect as mana recovery. On critical heals the paladin gets a 60% (nerfed down from 100%) mana refund on their heals.

Paladins are great healers, as long as they know what they are doing and have geared themselves with those things in mind.

If your Paladin failed to live up to your expectations.. maybe it's not the game's fault or Blizzards for that matter. It may just be you.
