Long before that, there was a shrinking themed episode of the Superman TV series Lois and Clark. At the end, the female antagonist gets a massive dose of her own medicine. She developed a shrink potion that she used to shrink three people. At the end, a whole bottle of the potion falls of her, and she seemingly shrinks away to nothing. The effect is awful, but the actress really sells it with a look of panic on her face as the potion hits her, and a scream as she starts to shrink away to her doom.
Completely in agreement. Knowing it's about to happen and fearing it is also powerful.
