Thought I'd make this thread to release some stories as I finish them. I appreciate any feedback, positive or negative, constructive or flamethrower-wielding.

This is the first part in what will be a four part series, with the possibility of other stories appearing in this setting. Looking at my outline, I'm thinking parts 2 and 3 might be split into two. It's a little heavy on the world-building, but I think that's necessary. I'm pretty happy with it, but want to know what you guys think.
