Yeah, yeah. I know what he meant, and not even getting the phrase right makes it worse.
Look, sorry for overreacting. I have a friend who is about 15 years younger than I am, and she says "that was before my time" way too often. It always sounds dismissive and arrogant.
I wish I didn't dissect speech as much as I do, but I can't help it. This is what happens when a middle-aged English major spends two decades watching the language being repeatedly bitch-slapped and misused.
