World of Serenity/Just A Game

WoS is a MMO based on my book Just a Game, still in the early stages. The general idea is that it could be played on any device and tries to replicate the full free from madness of D&D 3.5. You can make a character of any number of races, want a half elf, half giant Necomacer Monk? Go ahead!

In the current build the system that lets you create your name, set gender, and select one or multiple races, you can also reroll your stats as much as you want with the the full Race load out shows up on the left with you total modified stats.

Hybrid race system: No matter how many races you pick their value has to add up to 1 and they can only have a value of 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16. And those numbers will effect your attribute modifiers, at 1/8 and lower there is no attribute bonus only the race skill, at 1/16 the skill is at half strength.

Class System: A practical identical system to race but the stacking system is different. Classes do not modify stats but set some as affinity or weak and will effect stat growth as you level, but each class also has their own XP modifiers, some classes level faster then others and multi classing adds these making you level slower.

Merits System: starting with initial pool to customize your character you use Merits and Flaws to ad quirks to your characters.

Gold System: another dice roller, you get unlimited tries but can undo a roll, this determines your initial starting finances.

Gear: After you roll and set your gold start selecting your starting gear then it's onto playing the game

I am also getting some reference art done that will be use for building the race sprite/models when I get to Phase 3.
Right now the GUI is only the Character Creator screen...but everything has to start somewhere.

6/27/13 Build Notes
Cosmetic Changes:
All the former white spaces have been located and made transparent.

Gameplay:
Several behind the scene clean ups and placeholder system added
Blood purity system has been updated with functionality to limit the cascading values, not perfected.
All races up to the Beast have been stated up
Additional Race details have been added: lifespan, height.
Placeholders added for the skills, spells, quirks, etc systems
Clicking a race displays all details in left menu.
Top 3 race not selecting have been fixed
Class selection system in place
Clicking a race (or class) picture changes the center image
Art assets for Human (Chosen/Native) and High Elf have been added (M/F only at this point)
Started the import system (not how it defaults to female and applies the right mods): This will allow a user to jump right into chargen with a previous made character to tweak and modify.

Coming Changes:
Finish of Chargen part one:
-Get the import functionally to fully pre load a character.
-Build a login page to show you your characters and your character still in creation to edit (and later) play them
-Build part 3 of char gen when you roll gold, get you default gear gits, buy additional gear, set your level modifier, picks quirks and set skills and spells

Phase 2:
Finish all art assets

Phase 3:
Creation of the 3d and 2d world movements, for this phase generic placeholder art will be used while the mechanics are being perfected.

Phase 4:
Networking and getting the game online and connectable to different users simultaneously.
-In this phase we will find what is the more prefer medium based on player feedback: A fully persistent world like Everquest and World of Warcraft? A lobby system for a single player game with match making like Guild Wars or Diablo 3? Or something Else. I am leaning toward a Persistent MMO.
Phase 5:
Last phase, the game is now complete mechanically it just need its final art assets done.

Phase 6:
Live!

Now if you have read this far your probably wondering "but where's the TG?"

Well the answer is simple really, "that's up to you."
When the system is done Gender will bedfined by 3 parts, by default they are all in synch.
The first is your upbringing, this effects your stats but its rather minor still this is to represent how you were raised and as such effects thing like strength, and the like. In a mid evil setting a woman isn't going to be raised to be a fighter she going to spend most of her time in the kitchen and social settings and as such has stat modifiers to reflect that.

The second aspect is physical gender, this his how you are perceived by others. Were you raised as a man (aspect 1) but are physically a woman and thus face the social expectations of that physical gender? Or is your gender harder to pin down? (Physical Gender Unknown)

The 3rd part is who you are on the inside, do you see yourself as male, female, or neither? This is purely internal and really only effects you, the player, and outside forces/npcs are not going to really care how you perceive yourself only how they see you.

But there are other aspects as well, Armor is designed to be gender neutral, a woman weapon heavy plate is going to be indistinguishable from a man, but also if your a man and find say a noblewoman's dress and put it on then it's not going to magically change to a nobleman's coat or simple prevent you from wearing it.

Then we have magic, while there is no spells that explicitly change one's gender there are spells of change, polymorph for example can be used to turn a man into a sheep, a chair, or a little girl, long as you get the incantation variables right just about anything is possible. And of course there is the old illusion stand by.

In short TG is just one many things in the pipe for the game, but unlike other MMOs it's not something that is explicitly excluded. Want to be a man in a bodice and gown? Go for it! Want to change genders at will? become a mage and learn polymorph or illusion. Just want to kill stuff as a warrior and not concern yourself with this crazy TG stuff, pick up a sword and dive into it! After all it's Just A Game, and you're in control.

Today (and for the rest of the week) I'll be taking all my offline notes and putting them in code and this is a good chance to ask any questions in the chat. You won't see any breakthrough advancments but gotta get that ground work in and i have a bunch of notes now, inculding finnaly getting the 3 tier gender system in (psyical, social, pshcological), notes for a Moral Compas/Faction system, and juste more raw data for races, classes, and skills

Also I'mm be "Farming dragons" as Niela once joked in Just a Game in a sub window running Adventure Quest!
