BE Story Club: Stranger Than Fiction

Yeah, so, I thought I'd be a total tool and see if I could get any feedback/comments on the first part of my comic entry to last year's Comic Contest from the handful of Process-goers who are members there as well now that it's been released. I figure Lorekeep won't mind since he's got that advertising/partnership thang goin' with them right now and more business is good, right? Also, there's no other place to see reactions and whatnot.

I'm really happy with the way it's turned out so far, and Portal Comics have been in their best form for a while on their last few pieces. It's a fun little thing with something for everyone, BE naturally, but also a bit of AR, AP, growth, shrinking, FMG...tried to work in a bit of a bunch of stuff, tastefully of course. None of that mind control dickery, and only good feelings all around, so people who have shied away from other stories should appreciate that as well.

it's a really good story! when coming out a new comic it's always a beautiful news! i really enjoy this type of story (multi genre), because for me, take the opportunity to have a wide choice of story evolution.
but i hope this really good start don't shade in part II,III,ect with little or nothing process...
and when we can see the part II???

in anycase your works rocks!
ciao!

Being a member of the site and one of the winners for the previous comic script contest, I am really impressed with the story. Has a good variety of processes and the concept idea of a normal guy's life suddenly changes to better or so he thought. I can't wait what happens next.

Re: BE Story Club: Stranger Than Fiction

Nice story, dsojourn! Nice way to start it, too -- kind of like saying, "This is part of a much bigger picture, but we're gonna' start HERE..." and then let the reader piece it together later. Nice!

My only disappointment was the last page. Not that anything was "wrong" or "bad". Actually, because it was so enjoyable up to the end, I only wished there was room to fit a few extra steps between the "before" and "after" of the last part. Ah well. No biggie.

Can't wait to the next installment!

Re: BE Story Club: Stranger Than Fiction

Thanks for the feedback thus far.

@Byron - I like multi-Process genre stories/comics as well, since it provides multiple times the appeal and I find that BE on its own tends to get stale quickly without a full story to support it (such as the one Lorekeep is building in his "Unstable Assets) or gratuitous sex. Also, one of the chief complaints over the years for the BESC was that there was such a lack of any variety, so I figured it'd be appreciated. Don't worry, I also hate when all the Process is at the start of a story and then it vanishes as is usually the case, so there are constant changes every other page or two throughout this comic.

@GreatDragon - Yeah, it's definitely a classic "fantasy fulfillment story" in disguise, except the dude didn't fantasize it himself. I wanted to switch to the other side of the fence with the male main character, since I noticed, strangely enough, that almost every single comic in the club had female protagonists and was from the female perspective. Also, I was a bit tired of all the guys being dicks or getting screwed over, I've always liked Joe-normal guys who react, y'know, at least a TAD realistically.

@BustArtist - Lol, the last page WAS written as a process, with a couple of panel-shifts, in my script, but I suppose Portal Comics couldn't find a good way to get in on the page and still show everything satisfactorily. Combined with the fact that I write dialogue-heavy, I'm not surprised, although that's also something that's been missing from a lot of the other comics. I've been really impressed so far though, my script was pretty detailed (one of the reasons I didn't win the contest, heh) and so far, minus that one thing on the last page, PC have been following it pretty much to the letter. Especially nice since in the past it's seemed they don't like drawing processes, but the ones so far earlier then that came out quite well.

Also, for the one or two people who messaged me, yes, there are a couple of references to things thrown in here and there just like in the few stories I've written. The Rod Serling one, since this flows like several Twilight Zone episodes, only being the most obvious. There are one or two other subtle ones buried here and there.

Re: BE Story Club: Stranger Than Fiction

I have to say, it's content like this that makes the Story Club worthwhile. First Lorekeep's Unstable Assets and now your own! This was a good month to renew the subscription! I've always loved your fics in the Ronzo Commission thread and this comic really is a fantastic example of your work!

As per usual with your writing, it's one of those Process stories where the depth of the narrative keeps you engaged and easily kills the temptation to simply scroll ahead for the process. I'm genuinely enjoying this plot and I'm eager to find out where this is going, purely on the storytelling alone.

The only disappointment for me, and it's not really major, is the lack of clothes bursting, but that's more of a personal favourite and with the massively broad range of interests it's impossible to appease all within a single comic, least of all one issue of a comic. I'm perfectly happy to simply enjoy the comic as it is and clothes bursting would just be a bonus, as far as I'm concerned.

So, to finish, loved this installment, can't wait for others, or indeed anything else you might release. Thank you for this!

Re: BE Story Club: Stranger Than Fiction

I really liked this comic. The story was actually worth reading, which I can't say for some stuff on the BESC (not naming names), and Page 9 had some of the best process I've seen in a while. I did squirm a bit at the incest-ish mom growth early on, but other than that, I enjoyed it throughout.

Re: BE Story Club: Stranger Than Fiction

Love the plot good shit can wait to see were it is going would like to see longer segments I was a little disappointed when i got to the final page because I'm used to reading longer strips. other than that I cant wait to see what you have in store for the second installment. I also love that you went with a comic form, I prefer the comics more because I'm a slow reader with a bad habit to loose interest fast. out of all the stories on the besc I've read 3 and those sort stories took 2 days to finish because I go off and do other things.

Yeah, some pretty good process in this one - I thought it turned out very well... I especially liked the AP/BE scene. That was pretty great...
