Michael Crichton dies at 66
Author Michael Crichton, the man who wrote the novels Jurassic Park, Disclosure, Sphere, Timeline,The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Prey, wrote and directed the 1973 classic Westworld, directed the film version of Robin Cook's novel COMA, creator of the tv series ER, has sadly passed away
I loved Crichton's work, he was a master of both drama, suspense and sci-fi, it is sad for the literary world to lose a giant such as him |

Yeah, I like not only Crichton's fiction work, but his non-fiction stuff as well.

You forgot Eaters of the Dead, which eventually became the 13th Warrior.
But yeah, sad loss indeed. |

Re: Michael Crichton dies at 66
My only gripe about Chrichton.
Eaters of the Dead. It was so obviously a rehash of the epic Beowulf with a few changed names. I mean my god, go watch The 13th Warrior (a movie based on Eaters of the Dead) and you will understand what i'm talking about. He claims he found it in some ancient manuscript or something...but really it's so damn close to the other that there is a 95% chance he plagerized :\ I mean honestly.. HROTHGAR the king is in both of them...Wendols instead of Grendol.... OTHER THAN THAT SMALL GRIPE i love his work.

Re: Michael Crichton dies at 66
I read the Jurassic Park book.
Any given dialogue would go like this: Alan Grant: Aha! The dibonucleicic acidic is forming a chain reaction in the muated genetic code, ionizing the factoid patterns and stabilizing the elcetrons! Ian Hammond: But wouldn't that mean that the photosyntetic branch of the energizers would be reconfigured until it can no longer compensate for the mucuous alchalines? Alan Grant: Well, if the genetic reaction produces a mitosis that accelerates the flow of white cellsd up to a point when the genetic code rewites the carbon cells and the electrons reconfigurate to match the calcualted patterns, taking in account the mutations produced by the branch of hydriofolic... and on, and on. It was nothing but technobabble. And it's more disgusting. In the movie, the Spitter spits a venomous dart at Dennis Nedry that poisons him and kills him. In the book, he spits acid, openbing his stomach wide open and letting him see his bleeding intestines escaping from his body. So, the true master behind the magic of Jurassic Park was Steven Spielberg. |

Re: Michael Crichton dies at 66
God, when I first heard this it completely ruined my day. He was one of the few authors that was consistently good, no matter the subject he was writing on. He had a wonderful way of creating compelling characters, and his stories were always close enough to actual science to be believable, with the exception of Timeline. He was a master of balancing character development, scientific bonafides, and pacing to create engaging sci-fi thrillers that moved by at a brisk pace and left you wanting more.
I'm currently reading Next, and I'm deeply saddened that this will be the last time I will be able to read a new story by this terrific author. |

The world will miss the endless torrent of feces known as his writing, his enormous ego, and his contributions to the end of scientific literacy in the United States.
May he rest in peace for eternity. |
