Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TF

Seeing Lorekeep's thread about the shrinking and reverting sequence reminded me of this particular part of Stone Ocean.

Something like a mass snail TF. Very strange, but here ya go.

Re: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TF

Jolyne's breasts were shaped like snail shells. I can only wonder what Gobosan has to say about that.

Pretty interesting stuff. However, I'm not a fan of inherently fatal TFs.

But of course, if there were no danger in this express case (mass TFs), then I guess it would be boring.

Maybe I was missing something, but I couldn't find any really tf-related pages from that link - a few with snails stuck here and there but nothing else.

You have to go pretty far into it to see it through, like chapters and chapters further.

No, because I'm also lazy. I don't feel like going through all those pages again. But I'll save you some time by telling you some things. The last one will be a slight spoiler.

1. It's not a full TF
2. There is no nudity
3. You will see part of the TF, and then those characters will disappear for half a chapter and then reappear with little to no progress in the TF from earlier.

spoiler ahead

4. In the end, the entire transformation was a hypnotic suggestion caused by some trick of the light that implanted subliminal messages in everyone's minds. There was no actual transformation, it was all in their minds.

Re: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TF

Actually, the TF was real. The hypnotic suggestion was so strong, it caused people to biologically become snails, albeit slowly.

I've worked this out to some extent too. Mostly, the part is about how the mind can have a strong effect on a being. The rainbow was a catalyst; it caused people to believe they were snails profoundly, and being unexpecting and unable to resist, they became snails. Touching the snails wasn't supposed to have an effect (hence why Pucci is unaffected; he knew about this ahead of time), but exposure to the rainbow in a limited fashion or watching someone transform after coming in contact with the snails implants that idea and eventually the transformation is still in place.

To pull this forward, Hermes was in danger of dying due to the shell-crawlers invading her. They were actively threatening her. There wouldn't be much reason to prey on her if they thought she would be difficult.

Re: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure TF

No, they simply believed strongly that they were becoming snails. Had they actually been truly undergoing a physical change, their clothing would have been affected and the revert would not have been instantaneous simply because the source of the effect were removed. Pucci was not affected because he did not see the subliminal message, he explained that he took away his own ability to see and rendered himself blind and unable to be affected by the hypnotic effect.

Also the parts of their bodies that had been eaten wouldn't have magically reappeared had it been real, one girl's entire lower body was either eaten or had transformed out of existence while under the effect of that power, when it stopped her lower half magically reappeared (clearly suggesting the entire thing never happened at all). So we can either take it to mean that there really was no physical changes taking place, or that the writer and or artist ignored any sense of logic or continuity during the transformation process and simply had everything magically revert to normal when it shouldn't have given the nature of the "mind over matter" explanation.

During his explanation of how the effect worked, and how he avoided it he stated that "People are convinced they are turning into snails" the key word is "convinced". He didn't say they really were, only that they thought they were. Besides, if it requires a strong belief implanted in their minds to cause them to change, simply shutting off the power wouldn't stop it or reverse it, it would require an equally strong subliminal message telling people they were returning to normal to reverse that effect. But it didn't happen that way.

edit:

The more I read this story, the more I think it was simply laziness or a lack of attention to detail on the part of the creators. No injuries sustained by any character during the finale of Heavy Weather carried over into the next chapter. All the flesh consumed by the predatory insects was somehow magically intact and the priest who had been injured was also magically fully recovered. So at this point I no longer even feel like continuing to debate if the entire effect was imaginary or not since the whole book shows a complete disregard for logic, and has sloppy/lazy continuity. I've simply lost interest in it.

This is Jojo's, after all. Stuff doesn't have to make sense; just believe whatever the characters say, and if you're not dead, you can repair yourself completely.

Or is that what they want you to think?

Reading Pucci's monologue though, it is confusing. HW10-15 is the page I'm going off of for my argument, where he mentions the effect affects people physically as well.
