Peeved Comics Kickstarter

I've been debating posting this here. I want to follow the rules and worry it could be off-topic.

http://kck.st/SAVB6E

I don't know if anyone remembers the old comic I once made with Wolfman1066 called "PeEVEed". We're starting it over again as a digital comic (compared to a webcomic). They'll be 10-page comics, sold on Kindle, Google Play and other places. We've already made the first comic.

Some people have seen this as good, and others bad, it will probably be following in the same pattern of starting over as Pulse. It won't be as adult. It'll be PG-13, but still a comedy. I might be understating that though, Eve is in skimpy outfits for various reasons in almost all of the first comic.

A con of selling anything is that you might stop soon after starting if no one is buying. So we decided to have a Kickstarter to sell copies, and if the total raises high enough, the backers will also get future copies of comics we haven't made yet as well. It started out as backers just getting copies of the first comic, but the next goal has been reached so that backers will also get the (unmade) second comic. Maybe even a third and so on if the total rises.

What is the story about?
Eve lives in Japan, and she's kind of obsessed with video games. She's comically unlucky (although maybe not genetically unlucky considering her looks and physique). Her landlord is her aunt, and she has a cat named Pierce. And then we introduce a genie named Sena who has a thing for Eve romantically, and wants to use her magic to solve Eve's problems-- not always successfully.

Why are you posting this in the BE forum?
I've only drawn the first comic, which doesn't have any BE (or really even the genie character yet), and I only have a vague idea of how the story will continue. After someone asked, I'm told from the writer there will be BE in the second comic (which backers will get and maybe more). At least originally, Sena has a habit of using her magic to help people if unhappy with their bodies, but sometimes goes too far. If I had to guess, there could be a scene where she's walking around and notices people unhappy with themselves for various reasons and changes those things about them. That's kind of similar to what happened in the older comic.

I'm certain there will be BE in it eventually (like just about every comic with magic), but I wouldn't have mentioned this now unless I thought there would be BE in these comics involved in the Kickstarter. There might be other things like people getting smaller or taller, or stuff like that, but I can't guess when, how or who.

There's also a BE-mechanism for the genie, Sena. She gets taller, her hair longer, her body becomes an extreme hourglass and her breasts get larger the more of her potential magic power she accesses. She's kind of like Freeza in that she has a lower form and then higher forms. Her final form is probably closer to how she looked in the original comic maybe.

So, if you're interested you can check it out.

Re: Peeved Comics Kickstarter

Well, honestly it was funded in about 8 hours. But that was the goal for each backer to get only one comic.

$300 for a Kickstarter in 8 hours might not be that good. Although it seems like most Kickstarters are trying to do things that are more expensive overall. There are ones that are hitting 30k-40k totals.

It's about 3/5ths of the way for each backer (who gets a comic) to get three comics. And 25 days left. I'm not sure what to expect, I assume it'll slow down as time passes. It's already been way more successful than I expected.

From what I notice with these things they tend to start out fast, slow down in the middle then have a big boom in the last 10 days to a week.

From what I've noticed in the gaming scene, kickstarter is an excellent way especially for indies to start on a project, whereas they normally might not have been able to.
In your case though, alot of people are already familiar with your work, they know you've put in great work, they know you are trustworthy so there is minimal to no risk that something would go wrong. Which certainly has happened in the gaming scene.
But if you got a prior good reputation and pedigree then even medium sized companies make a great use of kickstarter.
It's also a good way for anyone to test the waters and see if people are genuinely interested in your idea.

There's a chance we'll get to a third comic as well. We're only a little past half-way.

Well, I guess that means we'll have to see if a fourth comic might be included.

Re: Peeved Comics Kickstarter

$5 seems more valuable the more comics that get released. 40 pages at $5 seems about what a comic store would sell for... or Comixology.

Which reminds me, what venues are you advertising through, and do you have any ads to co-fund the project?

Yes that's all true. It might not have been a good deal if only one comic (although I don't know what other small authors charge), but we had no idea what to expect, and with the variable amount of comics produced by the Kickstarter we wanted a minimum price that could cover a number of comics. 20 comics could have been funded for all we knew, or just one.

Not that it was my original prediction, with only nine days left I now expect that this will end with backers getting four or five 10-page comics, that would be 40 to 50 pages (plus 4-5 cover images).

We've spent about $20 or less so far on Project Wonderful ads. I might try to put up some more as it gets closer to the end. I tried a campaign, and that didn't produce good results, then I tried similar comics (sexy gaming and/or magic) without good results. The best results I've had are targeting comics were the readers might remember the old comic.

I've tried to mention it at places where the people might be interested, but things have become much less centralized, and I probably don't know all of the compatible places anymore.

Ads to co-fund the project? You mean ads in the comics? I think I mentioned that once, but we never really decided anything.
