Commission Information Requested

Howdy, folks. I have been pondering starting commission work to get some money but I have no ideas as to how to even start. I hope this is the right forum to ask; if not, I apologize and will move to the correct section.

Let me first introduce myself if you don't know me already: Hi, I'm danielsangeo, I'm a computer animator. I've been doing animations with a TG theme since the old Siren Song website (hi, Mako!).

I have produced several works including The Mary Murderer (wow, this one's an oldie), Abduction (also an oldie), and the Gynethrope (a more modern update of The Mary Murderer). I have also created still-frame comics including The Gypsy's Curse and The Animus of Celena.

I am now going to school to become professionally taught animation. This school is rather expensive but it has teachers from professional animation studios (my teacher for this term is Mr. Leigh Rens).

As such, I'm kind of in the need for some help financially so I'm thinking about opening myself to commissions but I've never done something like this before so I'm somewhat clueless.

As you can see, my medium of animation and picture/comic creation is Poser. This is a medium which some do not like but as I'm not really a very good drawer, I use Poser to create my work.

My main questions here are:
1. How much do you guys think I should charge for my commissions (short videos and pictures)? I don't want to be shortchanged here but I also don't want to charge so much that no one will commission me.
2. What are the main pitfalls or things to watch out for when doing commissions?
3. Are there pointers or things to keep in mind during the creation of a commission (deposits, providing a sampling of work, etc)?
4. Anything else I should know?

I am hoping to hear from people that done commissions in the past.

Thanks ever so much!
