Super Smash Bros DLC Discussion

Hope no one minds that I create a new thread for this instead of resurrecting the previous Super Smash Bros thread, but I felt that this topic had the potential for interesting dialog.

Anyway, this is basically what the title implies: a discussion about the DLC for Smash Bros. on the 3DS and Wii U, everything from the new Mii costumes to the Character Poll that's still going on.

For those who are interested in Smash Bros. yet (somehow) do not know, Mewtwo is already available for people who used the Club Nintendo deal involving getting both versions of the game, and it will be available to everyone else on the 28th. In addition, it was revealed that Lucas will be making a return from Brawl after all, and will be available as DLC in June.

However, that's just the start, as Nintendo also started a character poll, giving fans the opportunity to weigh in on which character they want to make it into Smash as a DLC character. At first, there was already major hype for characters like King K. Rool and the Inklings from the upcoming Splatoon game, but things got really crazy when Nintendo revealed that they're considering all videogame characters, not just ones from their own properties.

Not only are fans clamoring for their characters of choice, but even other developers are talking. The creators/licence holders of characters like Shovel Knight, Shantae, Super Meat Boy, and Banjo-Kazooie are either mentioning that they would support their respective characters getting in or actively urging fans to vote for their character, with WayForward even going so far as to take the initiative on providing an icon and several potential alternate costumes for Shantae.

So... yeah, discuss. Who did you vote for/plan to vote for? Who do you think will get in and why?

Personally, I voted for Shantae for a number of reasons. One, I've really been enjoying her games lately, and I like the enthusiasm WayForward has toward getting her in. Two, she's a female character, and Smash could use a little more of that kind of representation to even things out. Third, I think supporting indie developers in this way would be a really good move for Nintendo, especially with WayForward having been putting Shantae's games on Nintendo consoles since the Game Boy Color. Not to mention the massive array of moves available to her from previous games that could make for all kinds of interesting movesets. But I'm rambling.

I voted for Medusa, from Kid Icarus. If Dark Pit's worthlessness got in, surely the third most important character from the series can.

Not that she will though given how she was treated the last time Sakurai handled her in a game.

In fairness, Dark Pit didn't necessarily "get in". He was orginally just an alternate costume for Pit(like the Koopalings or Alph), and the devs ended up making a few minor tweaks to him that necessitated adding a new character slot for him. Same thing for Lucina and Dr. Mario.

I still hold out hope for the Pokemon Trainer. I understand the technical reasons behind not having him in the game, but...I choose to dream T-T

Seem K. Rool is getting some love, which is good as there should be more villains.
Wonder Red and Splatoon for some love for new franchises which smash bros is not always very good at.
Wolf i'd say is very likely, though I'd say Krystal or if you want to go for obscure Star Fox villians Adventures' General Scales would be kinda fun.
Maybe a character from Golden Sun or the older Final Fantasy games?

I see that great minds think alike, though I opted to vote for Hades instead. That man has so much snark that it's downright irresponsible to not include him in the game in any way.

Still, Medusa would be good and counts as both a villain and a female character, both of which the series is somewhat lacking.

My second and third votes would have gone to Lloyd Irving and Crash Bandicoot, but they said to only vote once, so... Gotta follow the rules!

In other news, I shelled out $10 to get all of the Mii DLC gear. I have no shame. Also, I feel like it was a wasted opportunity to not give Mewtwo any custom moves.

Re: Super Smash Bros DLC Discussion

Incidentally, who I'd like to see (though expect none of)...

-Medusa, as I said. I don't care about Sakurai's reasoning of "Dark Pit shouldn't use the Sacred Treasures". We have Koopalings with Jr's shit and Alph with Olimar's rocket. If we had to have a KI clone, it should've been her as Palutena. But she's also the other important character in the series, as said, is a villain, is female, and I actually enjoyed her character (all the whopping four times she appeared).

-Dixie Kong/K. Rool. I don't really care which, but DK needs another character because good god they're Nintendo's fourth highest-selling series with quite a few viable people and they're still at two.

-Impa, because Zelda's character representation is awful. Among five people, two of them are the same person as someone else (only technically in Toon Link's case but still) and they have three unique movesets between them.

-on that note, pure pipe dream, but Ganon. Ganondorf's crap-o Falcon knockoff moveset's pissed me off since Melee, and obviously isn't changing for unknown reasons, so let's get the piggy in. We already have two Links and Zeldas, why not Ganons?

-Bandana Dee. He's been pushed lately in Kirby games, and I think a spear-user could be cool.

-a Square Enix character, ideally Warrior of Light, for being the "protagonist" of the first FF, or Terra, for being so for probably the most popular Nintendo-based one. Gilgamesh would be a solid third option. Not Cloud or Lightning is all I ask for.

-and, far more unlikely, given they already have roles in the game, but Waluigi and Ridley.

I'd like to see Inkling or Midna make it onto the roster.
