Need new (or old) software

Updated Libreoffice, the tool I use to bang out most of my Dictionaryhash work, the other day and now it doesn't seem to reduce the resolution of the source images. There had been some kind of minor glitch that inflated the filesize around the middle of last year, but now the output PDFs are around 80 MB. Used to be a tenth of that.

I can resize the images before inserting them, but that's a lot of extra work and Dictionaryhash is what I do for free fun, and love of the game.

Anyone got a copy of Libreoffice 5.15 or so hanging around or a suggestion of a new tool for making found images comics?

The latest Libre Office is 5.3.0:

You can use GIMP as free image editing software:
https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Or the good Ol' Paint can be an easy simple way to downsize pictures.

Yes, unfortunately the Win64 version of 5.3 turns what was a 5MB PDF under 5.1.5 into a 75 MB PDF. Kicking myself that I haven't tried the Win32 edition. Give that a shot tomorrow.

All cool with GIMP. I cranked out this weekend's extravaganza with a bulk file transformer plug-in for GIMP reducing all of the images to 9"x6" @ 96DPI. Otherwise LibreOffice doesn't respect the DPI setting and leaves all of the images at default resolution (which is damn huge).

Paint is cruel and unusual punishment for what I do.

Paint is just punishment in general.
Can you work with 5.16, since that's available?

Bug exists as far back as in 5.1.6.2 I've lifted a copy of 5.1.5 that was lounging around in the recycle bin of my laptop. About to install.

Better, about 12 MB, but still twice the size it should be.

Looks like I either bug hunt the sucker or keep an eye on the bug tracker until it's fixed.
