I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

In the imdb FAQ, the Batman comic books are referred as "kiddie comic books".

"Batman: The Animated Series" is referred as a "Saturday Morning cartoon".

People are denying that Jack Nicholson and Richard Moll ever existed.

They are saying that this movie should win Oscars, and that it's the best comic book movie ever.

And you know what?

I FUCKING HATE THAT!!!!!!!!

1-"kiddie comic books"!? you SO got to be fucking kidding me!

There is NOTHING more mature and adult right now that Batman comic books. "The Dark Knight" does NOT make Batman comic books"kiddie", as it's the comics and ONLY the comic books the main point of reference for Batman.

And I'm talking about the regular, ongoing comic books, NOT just the stuff Frank Miller and Alan Moore wrote.

2-Calling the great, dark, norish "The Animated Series" a Saturday Morning cartoon is pissing all over Paul Dini and Bruce W. Timm's hard work.

That cartoon was far from kiddified. It gave us the best Batman ever. It defined the Batman characters for the small screen. ANYONE who calls it "a Saturday Morning cartoon" needs to have its head examined.

3-Jack Nicholson played the Joker. Stop denying it. He played a GOOD Joker (good enough to warrant an Oscar nomination, no less). In my opnion, he was even better and more true to the comics than Ledger.

He brought the Joker to a whole new level in an era where the main refrerent for the Joker was Cesar Romero.

And Jack Nicholson accomplished far more in his life than Ledger. The Shining, A Few Good Men, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Witches of Eastwick, Hoffa, As Good As it Gets versus...Brokeback Mountain and the Brothers Grimm. Give me a break.

4-Richard Moll also played a GOOD Two Face and there's no reason for denying him, either.

He worked hard for the role and played it very true to the comics.

5-This movie is too, you know, "comic booky", too nerdy, geeky, fanboyish, to win an Oscar.

Where are the good, quiet, independent films? Michel Gondry, Charlie Kaufman, Paul Thomas Anderson, the Coen Brothers, Alexander Payne, Ang Lee, Wong Kar Wai, THESE people deserve an Oscar.

6-It's not the best comic book movie ever. That would be "Spider-Man". Without that movie, this movie wouldn't even exist. Spidey still reigns supreme.

You know why?

Sam Raimi isn't bound by realism. "The comic book had an alien symbiote? Then our movie will have an alien symbiote! The comic book had a half-man half-lizard? We inject Dylan Baker with lizard DNA, and presto! The comic book had a guy made of sand? Coming right up!"

Raimi knows that comic book accuracy is more important than realism.

Also, Spider-Man fans acknowledge the existance of the 90s cartoon, as well as the comic book. They don't have Oscar delusions about those movies, either.

Re: I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

I disagree on many points though some points are valid. I did not ever watch the animated series except for a few times, and on those occasions I enjoyed it.

Jack Nichlson's Joker paved the way for Heathe Ledgers, but I like Leadgers much better. First off Jack Nichlson played Jach Nikleson in every movie I have seen him in. Heathe Leadger played someone new each time. The problem I ahve with Nichleson is that I was neither able to empathize nor revile his Character. I can understand how some can like him and indeed I do like certain actors who repeatedly play the same roll (Humphrey Bogart, but his one character was deeper, John Wayne, Vin Diesal). Leadgers Joker was a far mor fascinating and dynamic character. I also thought the jokes he told were funnier. It is not so much the realism that grabs me but the dark depths and multifaceted nature of the character. The character that actually grabbed me in the movie was Harvey Dent/Two Face. The change in character really moved me. Over all I am not much of a DC fan. I prefer Marvel in most instances (Squirrel Girl has the potential for becoming a serious hero).

This thread needs to be moved to the F&BS as it was flaming the moment it was posted.

The only Spider-man movie that was good was the second one, and that was because of Alfred Molina. The script still sucked. The third movie was fucking awful in all aspects. And you act like Spider-man was the first comic book movie in existence.

For what was true to the comics, Joker's been both the psychopath and the trickster in the comics, then various combinations of such. Ledger played the psychopath version better than anyone.

And his appearance is fairly true to the comic book series (just more towards the original part. The Harvey Dent stuff was in the comic as well.

Calm Down! Guess what? Batman TAS *was* a saturday morning cartoon! gasp! It was a great show (I have all 4 seasons on DVD) but it's still a cartoon aimed at kids!

The same with the comic! I'll admit the comics have been getting pretty dark lately, but they leave out a lot of gore or swearing cuz.. y'know, they want 10 year olds to read it too.

Re: I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

In all truth, the Joker character has been written in a number of ways. relatively harmless prankster all the way to moody, sadistic, psychopathic killer. Both performances have a degree of "trueness" to them. I do think that Heath Ledger's performance was definitely a good one, and that he gave a very interesting spin into the Joker character.

The way he kept giving different stories about how he got the scars? That was a nod to the fact that The Joker has numerous "origin" stories through-out the Batman history. It was also a nod to someone explaining that perhaps he has to re-form his entire personality every day.

Any time you put Jack Nicholson into a role where he can be just a little off balance, he does a pretty good performance. I really rather liked his performance in A Few Good Men. But what really amuses me is that people are crediting the actors for how they portrayed the character. The director and writers didn't have anything to do with that? Nothing at all?

Im pretty sure they have Oscars for those professions too

But the best-written character doesn't mean jack if the actor can't back it up and make you believe!

Elmo....been meaning to ask...

Is English your first language? Not trying to be mean but...wow, it's like I need a codebook to understand what you're saying sometimes.

Also : I agree with the main thrust of Hellstromm's post. It does seem (like with everybody hyping JJ Abrams' potential Star Trek to the extent of deriding the sixties series) that with the release of The Dark Knight, history is being revised to mock all that came before.

Was The Dark Knight a good movie? Yes. Was it better than Batman Begins, Batman and Robin, Batman Forever and Batman Returns? Yes. Better than 1989's Batman? No. At least not in my view but to be less biased....

1) TDK could have used a better editor. There was alot of shit in that movie that could have been done away with and made the film a much tighter performance piece.

2) Christian Bale has alot to learn about making his voice sound different BUT still being intelligible.

3) Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson both gave two great performances as two different versions of the Joker. Relax, people. You're doing no disrespect to Ledger's memory if you recognize Nicholson's performance, as well. Plus, also stop acting like they can no longer use The Joker character because of his death. It's a character. There can be different actors portraying him.
