Looking for animation software info

Hi all! I lurk here from time to time. I hope this is the right place to ask...

I was an artist at one time and I've been looking for some time now to try my hand at some animation. I've loaded Flash, tried it, hated it, found the "Flash for dummies" pdf, downloaded it, exparamented with Flash again, and found the program to be utterly useless as an animation tool.

I'm seriously tempted to try to make a TF scene like the swf's out at http://www7.plala.or.jp/mashiroyou/00-04-02Flash00.htm but I need to know if there's a decent animation software program out there. I need one that's fairly simple to use, not too expencive (under $100 if possible), can handle outputting into swf format, and still give decent results.

Any ideas? Please, include linkage too, or where I can purchase the product.

Thanks!

Just curious, what is it you don't like about Flash's animation tools? The ability to onion skin and set your keyframes whenever/however long you like make it pretty powerful.

If it's the drawing tools you're upset with I understand (they suck), but I doubt even the url you reference was drawn with Flash, just used to compile into SWF. Those were "Photoshop stills fading into each other with blinking eyes layered on top", not animation. (yes, Im an animation nerd/fag)

Anyh00, if you're a student you should look into getting Toon Boom Studio for $130 or so, that'll letcha do some real animating. Or just stick with Photoshop/Gimp/etc and put it together with Flash.

I've seen this at CompUSA

Resiz3d is more the artist than me so I would give his advice more weight.

However, there is this program as well. Anime Studio 5.

It also comes in a bundle with Manga Studio.

Theses are their basic versions. They also have pro versions which naturally have more advanced features.
