Torrent Questions-HELP/ADVICE

I'm trying to download a video using BitTorrent on my Mac OS X. I'm not sure about the whole process.

*It's taking forever, like days. Is that normal or can I speed it up?

*The file should be in a format .avi. When it's totally done, will it automatically convert to .avi or do I need to do something with it?

Are you behind a router, or connected directly to a modem?

If you ARE, you may have to set up some port forwarding.

But I couldn't tell you where to find the IP your client is using. I don't do the whole Mac thing.

Re: Torrent Questions-HELP/ADVICE

how many seeds and peers are available? The torrent program should tell you something similar to "Seeds: X(of Y)". If there are few seeds, then that means that all of the bandwidth on THEIR end is being spent sending parts of the files to a lot of people, so you are merely getting an equal slice of a very limited pie. However, as long as the download isn't actually frozen, you can just leave it running in the background while you do other stuff. Also, torrents can be paused and resumed whenever you like, as long as SOMEBODY is still seeding it somewhere.
