Thumbs up Go see Avatar

It's amazing. Take your parents or your kids.

Why? It does have a tf in it, guy to alien cat guy via body swap. But, also

Science fiction
giant robots
catgirls
original story

If this movie does well we can expect to see lots more science fiction, and catgirls. If Avatar does badly, it will set the cause of catgirls back 10 years and we wouldn't want that to happen would we?

Also I was reading about how if this is a hit it will be one of the few big movies not based on a sequel or some previous intellectual property. Aren't you sick of seeing endless sequels? Maybe if this movie does well, it will encourage more people to be daring when they make movies.

James Cameron made my previous favorite movie of all time, Aliens, and I''m sure I'll end up seeing Avatar in the theater several times. So drag people to it if they might enjoy it but be too lazy to go otherwise. It's the holidays. Get out of the house and go see a good movie!

Re: Go see Avatar

I'm going to be honest and say that the reason I DON'T want to see this film is because it sounds like a bad video game in film form.

I know it's likely at least acceptably good. Just SOUNDS stupid.

Whoa, deja vu. I haven't heard such contradicting good/suck reviews since The Watchmen (which i thought was pretty good)

Re: Go see Avatar

I just got back a few minutes ago from watching it. While certain, obvious elements are presented, it still stands on it's own with fantastic visuals. It's certainly worth the ticket price (that is the non-3D price; like I'm going to pay extra for another pair of glasses and a headache).

Eh, I've already seen Dances with Wolves and The Last Samurai. I've seen enough "White men take over tribe of noble savages" stories set on earth, no reason to pay $10 for the next iteration of white man guilt, this time in space.

Re: Go see Avatar

" original story"

not really.
one person said its the "Europeans invading the noble savage in the New World" story of the 16th to 18th centuries

and someone who saw it said its a high tech version of
"Dances With Wolves"

"daring"
Nope
If the backers give you $25 million to do a movie you can do daring weird things. If it flops its just a tax writeoff.

For $250 million however it could wipe out that filthy rich backer.Hence
Faith Popcorn and Risk Management Team Alpha had as much to
do with that script as Cameron did.Not room for being daring.

Re: Go see Avatar

If they keep releasing these 3D movies that I can only download low res 2D it'll ruin my pirating career! (And I just got the Arrrr! Down too!!!)

Re: Go see Avatar

Without the big screen the space ship, the shuttle, the vast shots of the planet just wouldn't be the same. I had high expectations for this movie and for once they were more than met. The real plot of the movie is , guy becomes cat alien guy, meets catgirl, falls in love with catgirl, decides to defend kitty aliens from those awful humans. When's the last time you saw that? That is pretty original

If you like shrinking or growing, there is a shot where a ten foot tall catgirl kisses a six foot tall human.

Here's how the audience I saw it with reacted when the movie ended. No one got up to leave. Everyone wanted more.

They spent a lot of money making a movie that is mostly about aliens on another world, one of the only fully realized alien planets I've ever seen. Making a movie that's mostly not about humans is daring, they're in a lot of trouble if it doesn't do well.

Eh, you naysayers don't know what you're missing.

I liked the 3D. It takes a while to get used to, but then it was fine. The flying scenes wouldn't be the same without it. The guy behind me in line at the theater was whining the 3d gives him a headache. Well fine see it in 2d if you must, but I liked it.

I like a lot of bad movies, but I can't remember the last time a movie gave me more than I hoped for, so this is one of the rare really good ones.

Also, catgirls. I don't know how you can argue with that. Stop whining. Go see it!

Re: Go see Avatar

Just saw and I had a rollicking good time. Yeah, some whine about the "white man guilt" plot but I found it wasn't laid on too thick and the environmental message was subtle enough to not be obnoxious.

Great final battle, that's what I like to see!

Plus, kitties!! =^_^=

So I'm with you Jake...or should I say...ZoonarJ5/9Doric47?

Re: Go see Avatar

According to the making of Avatar, the entire movie is a combination of live action and 3D, basically speaking it wasn't the kind of regular voice acting you'd expect from a movie like this. Also they say it was an old story that was written in 1995, but they didn't have the technology to make it the way they wanted yet so they wait until it improved. So that's pretty much why this "kind" of story isn't so new to most people.
