Art tips?
Yeah, so... I've decided that I'll be getting back into the art scene. Most likely, I'll be doing some Process related pieces also. The thing is, I've been out of the art community for close to 8 years as an artist. I've also never drawn any Process material before, So that might also be an issue.
If it helps at all, I'll be purchasing a tablet within the next few months. Pre-thanks to anyone who posts useful tips.

Re: Art tips?
Repetition, repetition, repetition.
And while I suggest you go to the sites resiz3d listed, you may want to get that tablet sooner than latter as pen tablets tend to feel different than what most people are used to. Speaking of which, do you intend to get a more expensive tablet or something more common like Wacom's Bamboo? How about art programs you'll be using? Some use this Japanese program called Sai which allows for many kinds of strokes from ballpoint pens to calligraphy paintbrushes, while some go for GIMP since its much cheaper than selling out money for Photoshop. Though I know Wacom's tablets come with a free copy of Photoshop Elements. EDIT: Oh yeah, and process of the more tame and cartoonish kind is simpler to do than you think, as it usually covers up or simplifies more detailed parts of the anatomy. Now if you're speaking stuff like realistic weight gain, violent TFs, and the such, that's another thing entirely. Last edited by Marmalade-Beat; 05-10-2010 at 08:34 AM. |

Re: Art tips?
Well, I have been giving thought to a Wacom Bamboo, I already have GIMP on my computer, so chances are I'll be sticking with that.
Thank you, Resiz3d and Marmalade for your tips and suggestions. I'll try my best to get my tablet ASAP.

Re: Art tips?
Get Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. It's $200, but if you use the trial and it expires, it's still functional! A few features get turned off, but still very usable. (basically it turns into the 2009 version, which is the version I have)
It's the closest you'll get to pencil and paper while using a tablet. The interface is designed for tablet-use and doesn't get in the way.

Re: Art tips?
Hmmm, I think I'll consider it later in the year once I have enough spare money amassed. The Bamboo one I want is around 50 dollars, right up my price ally.
Thank you for your suggestion though.

Re: Art tips?
but what Im sayin is - the trial works perfectly well even after it has expired.
Total cost - $FREE. Just pay if you want the extra features (ellipses, rotating the canvas)

Re: Art tips?
If you have the money to invest, I would suggest buying a Wacom Cintiq. As for as making digital work, working with tablets, etc...you'll never need anything else. You can find refurbished ones (that work just as good as the new ones) in the 600 range.
