The lore itself is pretty outdated in culture for the first four. I'd want the modern stories to have a traditional RPG version though.
The closest its gotten to that is the Portables' single campaigns, and even that's pretty dull content-wise.

What physics changes have they made? Hmm.. apparently you can physically interact with monsters now by climbing on them to target... FPS style gunning (or so I thought it said not fluent in the least) I wonder if it will hold interest as long as the original did?

The first one fell flat for me because there were too few levels to play around on... so I switched to a private server and started messing with data XD. "PSO Cheats" was a fun place to play at.
The server is still there, but its ownership has changed hands, and similarly, their views toward data manipulation and hacking have changed a bit. But its not banned outright.
