Problems with the BE Archive

I'm not sure if anyone else is having trouble accessing the BE Archive and its associated sites, but for unknown reasons, I've had difficulty accessing those sites over the last few days. It could be them...but for all I know, it's my own computer acting up.

Incidentally, does anyone know how to increase the virtual memory on a computer? The only method I've heard so far is increasing RAM, and I can't quite risk that step yet.

Yeah, last night I was trying to enter the addventure and it came up with an error message. By the way, I know the BEA is about BE....But shouldn't this thread be elsewhere?

Re: Problems with the BE Archive

Yeah, the BEA is dead on all counts and has been for some time... I've known it to have outages on the forum or the addventure, etc. but it's been some time since it totally died on ALL fronts... which probably means that it's a bonafide hosting problem or some such, rather than the more recent downtime which has been due to software updates/errors.

Virtual memory... well, your computer will sometimes use hard disk space as memory - which is why you should never totally fill a primary hard disk - but yeah, RAM upgrade is the way forward. As it goes, RAM is pretty cheap and in terms of ? per performance, it's probably the easiest and best value for money.

Re: Problems with the BE Archive

They've been up and down over the weekend. Vexing.

Virtual memory (assuming XP):
Right click on my Computer
Properties
Advanced Tab
"Settings" in the Performance area
Advanced Tab
Change
Custom Size
For the Initial and Maximum size, it's usually best to set this to twice your system's memory (128 x 2 = 256), or if that's exceeding a gigabyte, half again your memory (512 x 1.5 = 756). Or whatever you feel comfortable with. I usually end up setting for a gig (1024) and calling it good.
I would recommend making sure that Initial and Maximum are both set to the same amount, however. I've found that Windows XP actually bogs down more than I'd like when it suddenly feels the need to increase the page file... then increase the page file... then increase the page file... So giving it a large one and walking away does away with that problem.

Thanks for the help. With any luck, that'll solve some (if not all) of my problems.

However, I'm definitely going to look into increasing my RAM over the summer.

Check their forum's "Site issues" area. It's scheduled maintainance. Nothing to be horribly concerned about.

They really need to blatantly announce these things on the front page days in advance, though...nobody ever checks that forum.

And the bandwidth that is used so that we can see all these, how do you propose it be paid for? Fetish Fairies perhaps?

As Agent M put it, money makes the world go around. And in the world of porn, it makes everything a lot easier to acquire. So either grow up, get a job, and pay for your damned wanking material, or get a clue and realize you're living in a fairy tale if you think that's ever going to be plausible.

Personally, I'd probably have told him not to blatantly tout the fact he was ripping off someone that is paying Lorekeep money for referrals. People generally don't take kindly to not making money.
