Remember Animorphs?
I did some searching through the forums, and there is precious little discussion about the Animorphs, which I kinda figured would be alot bigger around here. Anyone else here think that might have been one of the major factors in creating your fetish?
When all my peers were reading goosebumps, I was dying for the next Animorphs book to come out! Gosh, remember, the one kid who got stuck as a hawk for the rest of his life? Tobias? Was that it? I don't remember a great deal of their names, but I was so into those books as a kid. I think I dropped out of the series around book 25 or something, they just got kinda monotonous. Each one was the same. Find the (yeerk?) lair, hatch a plan to destroy it, various hijinks and tf-ing, failure, and then back to square one. Ah well, just thought I'd see if anyone wanted to indulge in a little trip down memory lane with me |

Re: Remember Animorphs?
I loved the series when I was in my teens, it was a quick as heck read since the reading level for the books was pretty low, but it told some good stories that were pretty mature for the age group it was aimed at. I've never been much of a TF fan, so it never played into any sort of Process stuff for me, but I did like the story and characters.
There were also those one or two books that dealt with the microscopic sized aliens that shurnk some of the characters down for some shrink/GTS story here and there, but they were still totally vanilla and some of the sillyiest of the books. And yeah, I agree, it did get REALLY monotonous for a while, especially around the mid point there in the twenties. The best part of the series at that point were all the separate specials Applegate was writing at the time to fill in all the series' back story. Also, it got WAAAAY too depressing towards the end, as do her other works, since it seems she has a fetish for destroying the lives of her characters and giving unhappy, really bittersweet endings that mess up all the characters who live for good. |

Re: Remember Animorphs?
Ha, wow, I didn't even know Rachel died. In fact, I forgot her name. I suppose it doesn't matter all that much. And I agree, those offshoot stories about the other aliens and where they all came from were some of the better books of the series. Still, I only read one of them and never went any further with the series. I guess I outgrew them at that point. But still, when I was in middle school and all, those books were the greatest!
Didn't mean to Rule 34 anything, by the way. I'm not implying that Animorphs were/are a fetish, or even should be. I hope they get left alone. But, I do think that they piqued my interest in transformation as a whole, and guided me into the fetish genre that we all know and love. |

Re: Remember Animorphs?
I don't like "Animorphs".
Why? One half of the plot is ripped off from "Manimal", while the other is ripped off from "The Invaders". I'd rather have people remember "Manimal" and "The Iinvaders" than any Animorphs book. |

Re: Remember Animorphs?
Even though I was into TF back then, I never read them. The images on the covers looked cheesy as hell.
That and they were really skinny as well. Even at the tender age of... whatever I was, a Goosebumps book was essentially a 15 minute speed bump. Then again, I was reading The Stand and Tommyknockers at age 10-12 or so. |

Re: Remember Animorphs?
Haha, yeah i remember that series too. Used to read them as soon as they came out, but i think i stopped reading around the mid twenties like you. I even have a 'Make your own story' book from that series. Looking back now i can see how poorly written they were, but thats what happens when you have many different authors to pump out stories so fast. Same as Goosebumbs - different authors the original lent his name to in order to pump out books so quickly.
I think i started reading them in third or fourth grade, and was happy to find a book series about animal morphing (or TF as i now call it ^_^ ) since even as a very young kid i was very into all kinds of process, but did not know any others shared my fascination. |

Re: Remember Animorphs?
I started reading them In first grade, and did get up to 40 or so. i later finished the series. it was hard to find the next ones in order. i also watched the show and read All of the little side books. they were rather more complex than the OP has indicated, especially towards the end when they put together an army of teens to fight with them.
