Stupid Creationist!

I was hanging out with some friends, and a friend of a friend of a friend who is apparently a creationist was claiming that we should not listen to science because everything science claims now they will disagree with in 50 years, and that science used to claim that the world was flat. When I attempted to point out the error and mention that the scientific method was used in Greek times to show that the world was round and approximate it's circumference he shouted over the top of me that "You just got on to me for making a generalization and now you are making a generalization". Every time I tried to explain what I was actually saying or later excuse myself was met with him cutting me off and shouting over the top of me.

I was about to the point where I was going to inflict physical harm on him (I am overly sensitive about anything that I persieve (spelling?) as censorship do to the continuous trauma inflicted on me in elementary school (Related to a speech impediment I had and resulted in me trying to kill myself in second grade on multiple ocassions). Fortunately the person I have previous refereed to as Mr. Nice rescued me (he knows of my sensitivity to this).

I find the people I debate on youtube to be more sensible and courteous than the guy I argued with. Sure they might insult you, but at least you get to finish your sentence.

More like science explains things while religion excuses them. The excuse is that it is all the plan of a god(s), and that it will all work out in the end.

Don't do this. Let him throw the tantrum. A hypothetical second encounter might bring up that his religion was perfectly willing to believe that the earth was flat too (the christian bible describes the earth as hanging in space (good start) supported on pillars (er...) and having corners (hrm)). Also if a shifting perspective bothers him so much ask him what his church thinks of divorce, because Jesus was pretty clear on that topic.

Again, I know that I should not resort to violence, it just I am hypersensitive to anything that to me seems like censorship.

For one being of an open mind to anything plausible when dealing with religion and science, I find it best to not get into this kind of arguement. I mean, no one is truly correct. It's all a matter of opinion vs fact at this point in history.

I know we both bump heads on here a lot, but I can agree with you that this screaming person doesn't know how to argue his point. Hell, I'd punch the guy, too, for interrupting me, because that really grinds my gears (not just as a pet-peeve, but as something that has really messed with my mental processing and my capacity to be social growing up).

Thank the same is true here. I had a major speech impediment and an unfortunate last name in elementary school and the other children would make fun of the way I talked by talking over the top of me with imitations. It got to the point where I tried to commit suicide repeatedly in 2nd grade.

I hate to say it, but it seems that we're getting to the point where really can't have honest discussions anymore. People are very polarized by media, belief systems etc. and I've seen more and more of a lack of consideration and tolerance as I get older.

Your Creationism acquaintance is quite welcome to disagree but shouting someone (especially a relative stranger) down is both boorish and ignorant. I would ask him/her what are you accomplishing by shouting over me? It doesn't prove his/her point more superior, it shows how defensive and self-conscious the speaker is that they can't tolerate dissent and the shouting is probably a form of self-affirmation.

I've alwas sead religion is the source of war as long as there is some buffoon ranting about how their right. Im a Deist and pray at home if people would help their faith to a personal level there wouldn't be a problem. Also on the subject of science always changing apparently someone never heard of the dead sea scrolls. Scientists admit they were wrong, religous leader change history and cover up their mistakes.
