Girls at the gym

I've recently noticed a strange social phenomena, and I'm wondering if anyone else as seen this, too. There's a small gym at my apartment complex, and sometimes I go there, with my girlfriend, or by myself. And, being a public area, other people show up there as well.

Whenever this other person is a female, however, they always react in exactly the same way. They walk in, we make eye contact, and then they immediately look away, almost as if in fear. For the rest of the time they're in the gym, they stay as far away as possible, and never look in my direction.

Now I know what you're thinking - maybe you're just hideously ugly? Well, that might be true But still, I don't get that reaction from females in any other place.

Psychology is an interest of mine, and that is why I bring this up here. So let me ask: Guys, have you ever noticed this? And women - what's up with that?

I don't see the point of gyms, to be honest.

Re: Girls at the gym

true. But what can you do in a gym that you can't do in your own home or, heavens forbid, by going outside?

I'm sure some people go there to meet people. Others just want to exercise and don't want to be gawked at. Oh, well.

Gyms have equipment you don't necessarily have at home. They're also great for when it's raining. There is a trend towards staring at one's self and those around you at gyms though. I just stand outside the windows of them eating donuts.

I go out for a 1 1/2 - 2 hour walk every day with the dogs, regardless the weather. It keeps my weight in check. I can't imagine anything more dull than walking on a tread mill. I don't care about the weather. For resistence, I use dog leashes around trees. I can do lots of basic excercises around the house or in the park without the use of equipment. I look and feel worlds better than I did in the past when I was a member of a gym lifting weight.

Re: Girls at the gym

The grand assumption could be the simple answer here.
Females, from a completely stereotypical view be true or not, are known to be more insecure than males are. Well no actually allow me to rephrase. Women are more OPENLY insecure than males our.

Gym is a place when a person, woman or man, wish to lose weight or keep in shape. In all my years I've noticed a woman is never happy with their figure and those who are happy are few and far between in comparison. So to walk into a place of self improvement, vunerability on the shoulder, it can be more difficult to keep eye contact.

That or yes.. You maybe ugly. Or perhaps you just ate some insanely smelly sundae? OH cartoon reference.. very good
