Anti-Virus Issue!? OHMY!

I have the freeware antivirus, Avria, and it's been quite good but not perfect for a long time.

Suddenly this evening it says it updated with a free toolbar and wants to know if I wanted to activate it. I clicked, NO, and it said that Avira protection would now be deactivated for now, and then it prompted to reboot the system.

This behavior has rather pissed me off.

Every few seconds, it's now prompting me to reboot.

I have a feeling that this will be the end of my relationship with Avira.

So what does theprocess use for antivirus protection?

Should I go to Avast (ye maties!)?

I think this is a virus. I had the Windows Defender virus once, and it gave me similar symptoms.

...I also use Avira. But before that, I used AVG. I switched when one of the updates somehow disabled my wireless internet. Thank goodness for system backups!

Avast is good. IT comes highly recommended from my friend who works with computers all the time. Last time my hard drive failed he set me up with Avast when he found out that all I had was the free AVG.

I like that it literally updated itself as often as it can. It's a bit annoying to suddenly hear it pop up and let me know, but I like knowing that it's constantly updating ^_^ makes me feel safe ^_^

Re: Anti-Virus Issue!? OHMY!

I haven't had that happen yet. THe only thing it's ever done like that for me is Infran View, but it was a yellow window (not-too-serious) and it's been explained (by my friend that looked into for me) that part of hte code of that program makes Avast think it "MIGHT" be harmful. But still, the ability to open programs into a virtual sandbox is a great feature for keeping your computer safe.

I love it cus it doesn't jsut monitor my computer, but also webpages. I've had it halt a webpage (usually when I'm checking out images from google) and warn me from continuing to the page.

Re: Anti-Virus Issue!? OHMY!

Here's a plan for you.

1. Get job
2. Earn money
3. Buy a reputable antivirus

I use McAfee with Symantic Protection by norton (because the university I go to requires symantic, but it works fine).
4. No viruses, no shitty updates you don't want.

Avast is good too
