BAd news from dragoon
Hey folks, as of november 17 2011 my external hard drive has died. It contained everything I ever made on it, past present and future works, not to mention my whole poser library. I lost the 300 + image of my next project also and all vids I've ever made and was working on .
Needless to say this is a major setback for me not to mention kinda of a downer. I can rebuild most of my poser library thank god for renderosity and daz3d ability to redownload bought stuff. Just wanted to warn folks that it will be a while before I can produce stuff again since I need to first get a new hard drive and then rebuild my library, not to mention the trauma of losing a big project all of a sudden. So thats it folks, not the end of the world, but still sucks Dragoon

Yeah man. That's crappy news, but thanks for letting everybody know. Good luck getting that motivation back soon.

Re: BAd news from dragoon
Question out of curiosity, are you sure the drive is dead and not the enclosure? I work in IT and I've had a number of external hard drive "failures" that turned out to be bad hardware on the enclosure itself. If you crack the enclosure open, you can usually extract the drive and put it in another enclosure or connect it to a SATA (or EIDE depending on the age of the enclosure) to USB adapter and extract your files that way. 9 times out of 10 (and this is mostly the case for Maxtor, Western Digital, and Seagate) the enclosure will fail LONG before the drive itself does.
Then of course, you always have Seagate's data recovery service, but then you have to decide whether or not your data is worth $1000+ to you. If this sounds like its worth a try you can PM me with the drive's make and model and I can see if I can get you some more detailed info on how to go about extracting the internal drive. |

Re: BAd news from dragoon
Yeah its dead. I opened the enclosure myself, tried to clean the HD board with a pencil eraser. Tried it in another computer, tried some recovery programs, and many other stuff. Its definatly dead and I'm not paying 1000$ for a recovery for stuff i can mostly get back except some work.
Ths for trying tho appreciate the help wolverine. Dragoon P.S. Basically my modem fell on it and it was prbably doing something when it happened I suspect the drive is damaged or the servo on the arm is just dead.

Re: BAd news from dragoon
Theres also the option of getting a replacement HDD board. THE actual circuit bord on the underside hte drive. In some cases it can be replaced, or so aid my friend that worked with computers, and that's significantly less than $1,000. I dont remember exactly, but mine would have been something like $50 to replace. Has to be a perfect match for hte drive, but it's possible.
