OHMY! Mega is a new secure cloud storage version of Megaupload supposedly. I'm suspicious, but I like the yt video, especially the end!

Re: good news?

Mega giving mixed messages though on de-duplication. Publically their claiming each file will be encrypted and not duplicated (ie if 500 people uploaded the same 1GB movie file each copy would be unique copy, taking up 500GB of server storage) yet the TOS still has similar language about de-duplication as Megaupload (ie if Mega detect you've uploaded a file that is already on their servers, they'll delete it and redirect you to first copy of that 1GB movie, effectively saving themselves 499GB of server storage) and that is part of what got Megaupload into such problems.

"your" servers? What do you mean by "your" servers? Why would there be more than one copy of a file in your account? Do you mean their servers under your account? And again, why more than one? I confuzled.

Re: good news?

Oh-K, open source, huh? But, if they are able to seek out your stuff and compare it with identical copies as you seem to be implying, how is it the least bit safer or encrypted? Or am I confused?

And here's another reason why I am not trusting this guy -

Re: good news?

My understanding is that Kim dotcom found another country with less legal cooperation with the US and New Zealand for his latest company. While he seems like a jerk, the shutdown of Megaupload seemed borderline at best.

Re: good news?

I wouldn't trust it yet..

I've been looking into cloud storage instead of file hosting it seems a lot safer that way..

BUT ALWAYS BACK EVERYTHING ONTO PHYSICAL STORAGE JUST IN CASE!!

OO Sorry didn't mean to shout..
