Summary: a police officer is on trial after images and posts were found on his computer detailing how he would kidnap and eat women, including his wife, who is testifying against him, convinced he was going to go through with it.

On the case itself, I can't make any real comment because there's not enough info on what he ultimately wanted to do (no tools were discovered, no concrete plans, nothing was found except his posts, though he did research people illegally through a police database). It's the possible precedent, though, that worries me - I've seen stuff like that on the web, some it somewhat tied to here and sites within our "community." I'm obviously not worried they would come for me since my fantasy could never display anything resembling "intent" (at least until a shrink ray is actually invented ), but just the title bothers me; maybe it's because I'm biased as a fetishist, but "sick fantasy" just sounds derogatory, to me at least, and the only thing it sounds like he really should be on trial for (at this point) is the wrongful database use; however, it's all in the name of prevention: maybe he really would have done something awful if given the chance?

I'm curious to know what you think - am I being too lenient? Is this the beginning of a disturbing trend in the name of safety?

All the stuff I have written that they would describe as "sick fantasies" are from the perspective of people who are being (dismembered/eviscerated/flayed/having hands reach threw a hole in the abdomen and rummaging around the internal organs), so it is unlikely that it will be viewed as intent, and my mom is friends with a very good lawyer who has handled cases where the individual actual did commit canabilism and got him off. Still the disconnect between what I fetishize and what I actually would do is great. The idea of actually doing some things is repulsive but he fantasy of the actions is...pleasant. It is possible that it is similar for this cop. I normally do not sympathize with police but in this case I am starting with a bias towards the guy. It is possible that my position will be swayed the other way as I learn more though.
