Isabelle AR+IB
In the Belgian comic Isabelle (1980, drawn by Will and written by Franquin, Delporte and Macherot), the evil witch Calendula undergoes a ritual to temporarily make herself young and beautiful. She does this so she can marry and manipulate the powerful and good wizard Hermes, and thereby steal him from his fiancée, who is Calendula's own great-great-great(etc...)-granddaughter, a good witch who also bears the name Calendula (green hair).
Here Hermes has reforged the magic belt of Cassiopeia, his engagement present to Calendula the Younger. Wearing it will make him fall hopelessly in love with her (kinda weird present if you already love a person, but just roll with it), so it becomes a very useful item for Calendula the Older when she wants to control him. These scans are from the Swedish edition. It is truly a wondrous and charming comic, and if you find in a language you can read I highly recommend it. |

Re: Isabelle AR+IB
Oh my, there sure was more where that came from... this time with process! Two volums later (which I didn't have before) the witch is released from her petrification... and by that time the youth potion has long since worn off, so she quickly ages a few hundred years.
Also, she turns green. But wait! Another contrived plot device appears! The original ritual could only be performed when the stars were right, once every 600 years, and only lasted for a day or two (kinda crappy deal if you ask me). But with the introduction of a magic mirror that can somehow re-align the stars, she drinks another potion and positions the stars so they can begin rejuvenating her again. Apparently she intends to fixate the mirror somehow so she stays young and beautiful forever this time. But the mirror gets broken before she can do that, so she just keeps getting younger... (Excuse me if I got a few details wrong, as I don't really read French.) |

Re: Isabelle AR+IB
You got it right, except it's wearing off only because the witch who release her cancelled all the magic upon her, including the youthening one. And that's why she kill her.
