Re: sopa is back
Honestly, if this is the attention span dedicated to this kind of thing, I'm not surprised the industry lobbies aren't interested in sitting down to break down some creative barriers.
Snark aside, what has people so concerned that SOPA is back? There's apparently no new ground since the original proposal, which most ISPs treat like the plague. The only thing in the petition link is the same base rhetoric from the first StopSOPA campaign, only without the necessary citations provided last time to show that something bad was in the works. I don't trust campaigns that collect my personally-identifiable information; even less so when they ape older campaigns with significantly more substance. Did I miss something significant, or is this just another posturing attempt formed without evidence?

Re: sopa is back
Ah yes, dA - where it's fashionable to have a cause a year late.

Re: sopa is back
Oh, there was a cause - SOPA, PIPA, and that other crap bill nobody seems to remember were very bad things that - applied liberally to every possible violating instance - would've effectively killed the Internet. When Tim Berners-Lee and Vint Cerf come out against your grand "stop them thieving pirates" bills, you done fucked up, son. Then again, had something new actually happened, I wouldn't take issue with people coming to the party a year late with a do-nothing ePetition, when I was part of the original campaign that actually wrote to Congress suggesting that this is not a productive way forward - and promising to remember their stance on 1A rights come election day - amid literally millions of voices including major site shutdowns.
Their voices are a welcome addition, don't get me wrong here; I only wish they'd shown up sooner, rather than bandwagoning a year after the party.

Re: sopa is back
So wait - people are flipping out over a killbit proposal from twelve years ago?
Let me ask something here: when was the last time you got penetrated as a result of running torrents? Because that seems to be the concern expressed in that whitepaper, not potential piracy.
