BE Story Club Contest 2007

It?s that time of year again? yes, the 2nd annual BE Story Club Contest of 2007 is upon us?

The prizes!

First place:

Will be paid 1.5 cents a word, they will be granted a one year free membership to not just the BE Story Club but also to the entire BEA - worth over $230! In addition to this, the author will have their story illustrated 100% more than a regular BE club story - with ten illustrations total. Not only that but the author will have the exclusive right to describe the appearance of each and everyone of the scenes they choose to be illustrated to one of the BE Story Club?s top artists.

Second place:

Will be paid 1.5 cents a word, they will be granted a one year free membership to not just the BE Story Club but also to the entire BEA - worth over $230! In addition to this, the author will have their story illustrated more than a regular BE club story - with eight illustrations total. Not only that but the author will have the exclusive right to describe the appearance of each and everyone of the scenes they choose to be illustrated to one of the BE Story Club?s top artists.

Third place:

All other stories will be paid at 1.5 cents a word.

Judging Criteria:

Stories will all be judged out of five on the following criteria.

1. Spelling, punctuation and grammar.
2. Plot.
3. Structure.
4. Characterisation.
5. Sexiness.

Rules concerning submission are as follows:

1. All stories must be no less than 5,000 words in length.
2. Entries can be submitted immediately to prophet.tenebrae@gmail.com . The deadline for submissions is midnight PST on April 18th.
3. All stories must contain BE as a main - and not ancillary ? story element.
4. Stories may not have been published or distributed anywhere else.
5. All stories will be subject to the regular terms and conditions of the BE story club. In the result of a contestant not responding - the story will default to BESC ownership and the contestant will forfeit their rights to payment.

It doesn't have to be exclusively BE, that just has to be the main (or a main) process. They've never discounted any of the other processes on this site before.

Sexiness...to what end does that imply, how graphic we are or simply how the scene itself is laid out to the reader?

Yup, read the rules... BE just has to be a main theme but that's not to say you can't stick in other things by all means. Mainly, that one is to discourage people who have written a story where a girl grows by a cup size trying to pass it off as a BE story.

Sexiness... I suppose the best way to understand what I'm getting at is to read a Fret Pearson or Bill Pratt story. It's more to do with the feel of the story rather than explicit sexual content... in fact, explicit descriptions of sex can often damage the sexiness of the story. It's really the almost indefinable quality that makes the difference between a good story and a great one.

Also, as to the 5,000 words. I should stress, that's NOT a target you should be aiming for. It's the absolute bare minimum. I know that Mr. HHH has a permissive attitude to word counts for his contest but I am of the opinion that even a talented writer would struggle to knock out a great story in 5,000 words. You could probably do a helluva scene but this is a contest for stories. Feel free to prove me wrong and write an astonishing 5,000 word tale... but really, if it's good then it seems a shame there isn't more of it.

Well, I'm hoping for a good turn out... if not, there's the possibility of an extended deadline.

For those not certain of ideas, here are some ideas...

While checking in at her favorite internet forum (TOF), a young lady's computer is his by a power surge. Strange energies run through her, and she finds that her breast size is now linked directly to her post count....

A wife loves to wear her husband's big old shirts around the house. But something causes an allergic reaction, and she starts to grow to fit them....

Girl finds her "special" ability is to increase the libido of those around her... and their sexual characteristics. Yes, it's a sexualisation of Heroes.

Girl gets allowed into campus's most popular/slutty sorority, despite being small, mousy and such... as she is a clever girl and is to be used as the homework slave or such. At some point soon after being initiated, she finds herself cursed with the curse OF THE WERE-AMAZON.

Someone finds an "up to date" biography for Sharon. So up to date in fact, it's up to the second and contains her every thought and action and everything that has happened to her since birth.

Interesting... but not a BE plot device? AHA! The biography is in pencil and sections of it can be erased and rewritten, with Sharon and reality altering to accommodate the changes... having thought about it, it would be more sensible that the changes are Sharon-centric, as that represents the path of least resistance but all it needs is. All you need is a boyfriend, girlfriend or similar to feel mischievous with it and you've got some fun going on.

Oh, most BE story ideas are unoriginal... that's not really the issue. It's more a question of execution than originality. Naturally, it's nice when someone comes up with something genuinely original or a good spin on an old idea... but ideas are rehashed and to great effect.
