Upcoming movie of interest -Splice
"Copperheart Entertainment and Gaumont have begun casting on Vincenzo Natali?s (?Paris, Je T?aime?, ?Cube?) dark vision of the world of genetic engineering in which two young scientists become superstars by splicing different animal DNA to create fantastical new creatures. Ignoring legal and ethical boundaries, the scientists, who are romantically involved, introduce human DNA into their experiment and risk the dawn of a terrifying new era."
Apparantly Natali has been working this around for a while, from what I've read, describing it as the "Bonnie and Clyde of genetics". As for why I think this could be something worthwhile and not have our hopes crash down on us (for my fellow cynics): 1 Not only was Copperheart entertainment the production company behind Ginger Snaps, but according to imdb Natali worked on the storyboards for GS as well. 2 A poster on the aicn talkbacks said there's some test footage around from back when this was to be an animated film, where there's a woman with "backwards legs" (which I assume to be reversed at the knees) and wings. |

Sounds like an interesting idea... I can already imagine a thousand scientific inaccuracies but it could be interesting, so long as it doesn't just become an excuse for a monster movie.
Although - I have to say, this sounds like the kind of film that would have faired better as an animated project - simply because it would have been a helluva lot easier to do all kinds of crazy stuff. |

Wasn't this an episode of Batman Beyond? I always did think the fashion industry would push quick and easy cosmetic splicing before the military got on board.

Seeing as how Ginger Snaps was probably the most intelligent TF movie I've ever seen, I'll start getting my hopes up for this one.

Heh, I also used that in Airpatrol. People with genetic body modifications are called "morphers" there.

Yeah, there was splicing in Batman Beyond but it was banned when they found out the guy behind it was a mentalist... either that or the fact that splicing seemed to make people go a bit mental.

i thought it was just considered unethical, like rock 'n' roll in the 50's was in real life.
