Comic Contest - Winners

Ok... I want to take time to write some detailed critiques of all the entries... which will take some time, hopefully done tomorrow.

It's worth saying that most of the entries - though some people seem to think a page compromises an A3 sheet of paper - were in fact, of a good quality.

Growth Industry - This story had a lot of heart and it was one of the few scripts that got right down to the BE... and didn't really stop but also managed to relate the characters.

Garremont Gaiden - Even if this hadn't been a great script, I'd have made this a winner for the SHEER level of care and attention that was given to all aspects of the comic... characters, descriptions and so on.

Amazon Lisa - Well... this one is quite epic (and the one that is currently being illustrated). Even if you don't like Great Dragon's character it's got a great mix of transformation, sexiness and humour.

Anyway, I shall put together the full list of critiques... honourable mentions and so on... I'll also have to talk to Matt and find out how many of these comics are lively to be illustrated... so, just because your name isn't on there doesn't mean your script won't be illustrated... it also doesn't mean that you didn't do a fine job... as the extra time it took to judge, it was a real jostle to place.

It's worth saying that writing plain prose and writing an ACTUAL comic script are very, very different.

Like the script for a play or film, you've got to visualise - or if you're going to do a good job you've got to - the scenes AND the layout of the pages... well, only the more diligent people went that far... I think - if we are to have another - I shall make sure the rules and guidelines are more clearly defined.

You'd think there would be a deluge of entries for something so much simpler than a story contest.

Simpler? Write me a comic script containing a full, self-contained story in 20 pages and say it's "simpler" Well, 18 entries is pretty good.

Anyway, posting the critiques up soon.

I'd like to hear about mine, if that's okay. I really worked hard on it, and I have another comic idea for the next time this comes around, but I'd like to hear where I went wrong on this one...

I'd gladly send you a personal commentary on your comic Soylent... I'll just have to dig through my e-mails to remind myself which one is yours.
