Hi guys. I haven't ever posted anything on here before, so I apologize for coming in with a request but....
I drew this picture of Cammy, but since I am a novice colorist at best, I was wondering if anyone could help me add color to it. In addition, I would find any critique very helpful for my growth as an artist. Ah, I think I just made a pun. *slaps wrist* - Arc Last edited by arcomniflash; 11-19-2011 at 01:32 PM. |

Damn, that's some nice work!
Sadly I cannot color things for the life of me. Welcome to the Process! |

Re: Arc's Cammy Picture
Thank you for the advice. I didn't know there was already a thread for this kind of thing. I agree, of course, that leg could go back a bit and that would probably fix it. I think it looks fine, for the most part.
I hope you like it. ![]() I'll do what I can to fix it, and then replace the drawing. - Arc |

Re: Arc's Cammy Picture
Oooh.. >...<;; Yeah that right leg is sticking a tad too far back, looks like she's broken her pelvis straight down the center. Either that, or her spine snapped from overextension and the hips are falling away O.o;
Edit: what I mean, is that if the hips were tilted upward like that, you'd probably see the underside of the thighs, and not straight on side. 2nd Edit: Oooh new picture does look better. Go figure, it gets updated almost the instant I post XP So much for "constructive criticism" haha. Last edited by Bareon; 11-19-2011 at 01:38 PM. |

Re: Arc's Cammy Picture
I'm doing this entirely with a tablet, so I can pretty much edit it at will.

Re: Arc's Cammy Picture
So here's how I did this with photoshop:
Used color select to find all the white and delete it. Set the line layer to multiply to get rid of all the grays. Used magic wand to select the empty spaces created and created color layers to fill them in, the corners have to be manually touched up to get everything filled in. Then created color layers of either light blue or light purple set to Color Burn or Linear Burn to make shading layers. Painted with a 50% gray brush in the alpha channel to create shades, touched them up with the smudge tool or an eraser set between 60%-40%. Created hilights painting into a color layer of bright pink or yellow set to linear dodge or color dodge. Placed a faint pink color layer under some hilights set to multiply to make them pop more. Erased anything that strayed outside the line art. |

Re: Arc's Cammy Picture
Mm... The only thing I can comment on here is the lighting is the light shading looks a bit too.. uhhh.. in between for lighting. What I mean by this, is the reflections on the suit and skin make them look like rubber, as they are slightly brighter whites than skin or cloth would reflect, but yet, and the skin highlights are also a bit too dark to be from moisture on the skin. Possibly it would match up if there was a light layer of some kind of oil.
But anyway, that's just nitpicking the shading. I usually do mine by hand (cause the program doesn't have auto-shading) and estimate where everything goes on a separate layer. I then try a smear brush to muddle the straight edges created by the brushes, so that when they are put down they appear to be more progressive instead of sudden layers. |

![]() The style I'm using is based on the high-gloss plastic-y shading used in hentai games and manga. Just leaving out the hilight layers and erase softening the edges of the shadow layers would have accomplished a more realistic look. |
