Growth in ZSZS 04a

OMG I'm contributing! I'm not a particular fan of Growth, but hey, more riches for you guys I suppose? XD I checked and double checked, and I don't think this was posted....

What is Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei?
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goodbye, Mr. Despair) is a manga/anime series that revolves around Nozomu Ishitoki, a man who, when you stick the first few characters of his name together, has a name that means 'despair'. Nozomu teaches a high school class, and he has considered suicide many times (he carries a suicide kit with him, and he's attempted to use it many times, only to be foiled by his students). In regards to his students, they aren't exactly normal themselves. An overly optimistic girl, a girl with a tail fetish, an illegal immigrant, a girl who does not talk other than through abusive text messages she sends, and a girl with multiple personalities are only a couple of examples of the strange characters that Nozomu teaches. The series is very nonsensical, and likes to parody pop culture. ZSZS stands for Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goodbye, Mr. Despair Extreme!), which is the second series of the anime, and where this contribution is from.

Episode 04a
Following the nonsenical structure behind the entire series, episode 04a (the a indicating that its the first story of the episode. There are two stories per episode) involves the invasion of aliens on the night of a festival. Amidst the invasion, Nozomu's class searches for a secret weapon capable of defeating the aliens. They eventually find it, and when one of his students (Chiri Kitsu) uses it, she grows gigantic and begins to battle the alien's robots. Aside from the growth, if you're an Evangelion fan, you'll see lots of NGE parodies in this story as well. XD

The whole episode is here, and the growth occurs near the end of the first story somewhere (I'd say somewhere between the 8 and 12 minute marks, though it may be a bit earlier). Also, I've added a few caps to show the aftershot of the growth.

Seemed to be more of an homage to Ultraman than NGE. The mask, attacks, etc.

A shame the growth is offscreen.

He's absolutely right about the "people being drawn away from the main point" though. When the aliens started invading, all I could think about was that brief shot of the blonde chick with her skirt getting blown up so her underwear showed.

Before that, all I could think about was how much I wished the buffering would hurry up so I could get to the giantess scene as quickly as possible. Then again, maybe I'm just a shallow horn-dog who's been pathetically swallowed up by his fetishes and desperately needs a girlfriend...

I'm gonna say the only Eva-esk scene I saw was the first one, with the eyes. Everything else looked too fluid.

Then again, unless she has an umbilical reaching out from her spine, I'd have never thought of Evangelion

The Japanese seem to have a thing for women growing to giant size and battling some kind of similarly giant alien, and I love them for that.

A reference to G Gundam and Dynasty Warriors in the same sentence, I enjoyed it.

Ok, now that"ve taken time to watch it, I'll have to say the Eva-ness comes from the small glowing knife.

If I'm wrong, it only means I was having too much fun to notice such details.
