Blurring Lines
NOW THEN
before you guys go "OMG NO PROCESS" or "OMG CRAPPY ART" -please- bear with me. This is a work in progress. I finished the first four pages and decided to see how you guys liked it. There will be transformation as well as growth, and my style will improve every page I draw. I present to you, process fans, Blurring Lines. I will be attempting to make a new page daily. I am open to criticism, but only if its coherent. EDIT: page 5 for youz EDIT: tell me what you guys think. I inked and touched up the first page a bit. Is the difference worth it? EDIT: inked page 4

Re: Blurring Lines
Well, I like how it has come along so far, but I hope you understand how big a project you are undertaking. Making a new page every day probably isn't all that realistic, though you should definately give it your best shot.

Re: Blurring Lines
are the images too big (resolution wise, not file size)? I cant decide if that makes it better or worse

Re: Blurring Lines
Great start so far. Keep it up!
![]() A couple things that might help you along: Don't worry too much about the quality of your artwork. It looks fine so far and it will only get better as you go. Try not get stuck in any single panel. If the panel you are working on is not looking just the way you want it, go to the next one and come back to it later. Narration is a tricky thing in comics. It's fine as a storytelling device, but be very careful so that you don't end up describing what's already shown in the artwork. It's an easy trap to fall into, and it looks really goofy on the page. Anyway, the best advice I can give you is to keep at it. The more you draw, the easier it gets. ![]() Oh, and I found that 700-800px wide is a pretty good size for webcomics. It shows up pretty big on the page, and most people won't have to side-scroll to see the whole thing. Last edited by Mongoose; 08-05-2008 at 03:17 PM. |

Re: Blurring Lines
I have to disagree a bit...I mean, it's great to see people so interested in getting into the art, but i think you need to work at it a bit more. I know it's just sketches and stuff...so maybe I cant really complain until the final piece is done.
But also, the last page has some copy/pasting. Kinda lazy... |

![]() Generally speaking, an artist's fiercest critic is the artist himself. He knows he has a lot to learn (we all do) and could probably use some support from the community. I for one like to see people working on their art, and would love to see that process posted here, rather than rotting in some hard drive or sketchbook unseen. Oh, and copy and pasting is a perfectly valid tool in comic creation. Lots of pros use it (most often for comedic effect). Look at the Invincible series, the artist uses it quite a bit and even makes fun of himself for doing that, but it's never an issue because the writing supports it. (I'm not even going to get into Dinosaur Comics.) Anurubius: You've got a great start there, and I would love to see more from you. Good luck with your comic. ![]() |

Re: Blurring Lines
Even though I have virtually no interest in TF, I quite like this so far. The writing is good and the art shows real potential.

Re: Blurring Lines
*blushes and wags tail* Thanks everyone for the compliments, especially you Mongoose. (its a pillow cave) I'm gonna throw up the page I did today (technically yesterday since its after midnight now but who's counting right?) I may not have a chance to do a page for next time, since I have a double-shift to work, but being off Thursday will give me a chance to do two pages to make up for it. Just so all of you know, this comic won't be pure process all the time. There will be plenty, and if you guys prefer I'll only post chapters involving process here, and leave the other stuff elsewhere, but I wanted to be clear about that. Anyway, enjoy page 5 (even though nothing interesting happens in it)
