The story veered off into a strange direction that goes beyond my tastes, but I'll happily defend the people who liked this.

Think of it this way: some people enjoy gory horror movies. Does that make them habitual sadists? Does that mean that they necessarily want to see gory scenes play out in real life? How is it any different if you toss a sexual fetish into the mix?

There's a strong, very strong, psychological difference between enjoying something cerebrally and GETTING OFF to it. The fetishization of such material correlates to a much deeper, stronger, and more fundamental desire for such material.
