From my experience, Minecraft is more or less digital Legos, though it's playable in at least three "modes": Creative (build whatever with whatever w/o any negative effects), Survival (mine for materials and craft tools, fight monsters, and survive somehow), and Hardcore (one life, hardest difficulty; lose EVERYTHING upon death, including the created world). Under the right mindset and with a little imagination, Minecraft can be very fun.

While you can play through the entire game on Single Player, I found it a little more enjoyable if you play it with other people through Multiplayer.

The only server I use on a regular basis is Video Games Awesome's Minecraft Awesome Server. Normally, anyone with a VGA Account could jump on (they have a whitelist), but they're currently only allowing Turbo members on the server. Turbo Club members pay a one-time fee of $50 that, along with perks related to their site, pushes you through the whitelisting process faster.

The server is currently on Version 1.4.7 and runs on Survival rules. That being said, it should be noted that they take a lot of pride in constructing their world without relying on the luxuries provided in Creative Mode and they have a lot of "communities" with a variety of themes.

I used to go on another server called "MineAttack" (an unofficial Minecraft server for ScrewAttack), but I haven't been on there for about a year. They changed a lot of things there and I ended up losing my progress there. On the bright side (?), anyone could jump on there.

That would be the one I ran. Funds ran dry so I was unable to keep it up (That server was $25 a month, btw.)

I am, however, working on getting one running out of my own home that I can keep up for free.

Just having..issues...with the server itself. For some reason, its internet connection is going slower than a damn 56k whilst my laptop gets a solid 9-10mb/s while sitting next to it. I have NO clue why this is happening, I may just need a new adapter. If I can get this figured out the server will be close to 25/7 uptime.

I still put it up now and then, but its not up 24/7 atm. If I am on, and you wish to play send me a PM ill put it up and send you the IP to connect to.

and yesh, that does sound like an adapter issue, or perhaps your router is being a pain. Best of luck with that!

Im thinking my adapter is...too good.

I got a Wireless N adapter on sale for $9 (down from like $40) but my router is Wireless G. This particular adapter MAY have issues downgrading to Wireless G range. I bet if I had an N router it would be going smooth.

The upside is...testing it playing WoW there was no lag...sooo it may actually work quickly enough for gaming just downloading is slow as sin.

Well, the program is free, all you need to do is host it. Unless your compy can't handle it.
