Hmm. I don't think this is entirely true. It was interesting at first, but then it got me nervous thinking about how such a technology could be used in the wrong hands. I think before anything, stuff like this would affect the mind before the body. Mind control anyone? Scary stuff.

But I doubt this really works.

I think it is interesting, though thinking about it, I think the only way to actually test it is to do the experiment with someone who doesn't know it's happening. Anything else could just be a placebo effect.

The problem is, using this theory, one would have to know the person enough to reproduce the sounds that would cause the desired influences.

It would probably have a similar line to hypnosis, as well. Unless the sound were truly obnoxious enough (in which case it would only serve to drive you away), then anyone who could see the obfuscation or is particularly aggressed wouldn't be affected.

It's absolutely likely that anyone who understands the ring's concept and isn't compliant, or who isn't sympathetic to it at all, will be unaffected.

Actually I've heard thing that support that theory. "You can't force someone to do something they don't want to". It was mentioned in something... MYTHBUSTERS! XD That's what it was ...not that I can take that for cannon, but still...
