Re: Would you throw away your life, to live another?

I'm happy with my life as it is.

Besides, despite my interest in TF, I've never been interested in being the TFee.

I think that might be the case for a good bit of us on this forum. Especially in some of the scenarios presented.

With a price that high, I must decline. I guess I'm not yet ready to cast away the life I have now so easily.

With something like a "magic-wand-touch-to-something" maybe yes, but just for a short period of time. I am content with my life and my body (as a joke, I can say that I've dedicated all my time to that :P).

Re: Would you throw away your life, to live another?

I have always been fascinated with transformation. As a kid I would always imagine myself transforming into various sorts of critters depending on what I was into at the moment (dinosaurs, dragons, puppies, and other sorts of things) but I have always been afraid of not being able to go back to my old form, until that thought and a bunch of cartoons, literature and other sorts of media brought me to "evil conversion" and the idea that the mind is able to adapt to the new form and then I became afraid of another thing, what if in my new form I found out I really didn't need friends and family? Or that I could just discard them and make other friends and adopt another family?

In the end it is all just philosofical lines of thought that will not really take me anywhere but I like to think about those things every now and then.

Re: Would you throw away your life, to live another?

I usually have a story or two that I think about to distract me as I go through the more boring motions (I think most people do think about something other than what their hands/bodies are doing, an Auto-Pilot setting). Generally, starting in on one of my thought-stories tends to be a good way to get me to sleep at night. One of my recent favorites is something along the line of the old Sliders (before it became sux). Generally, I start off in one world, and when I lived to whatever I felt was that life's/Earth's full potental, I simply slipped into another dimention/possiblity. An infinity of Earths, any form I wanted on that Earth, to explore and learn, whatever. Drag through whoever, change them into whatever. Be Evil in one dimension for certain circumstances, Good the next. Learn SuperScience, fiddle with Magic, learn how to use Chakra, whatever I feel like I'm into at the moment.

In a situation like that, yea, I'd love it. I'd have no problem giving this life up.

Heh, the problem with my thought-stories is that I tend to overpower my "hero" after a while. One of my old books (from 1950 or so) postulated that to become All-Knowing God would be to become infinitely bored, as that being would know what would happen, every second of every day, of every possible outcome, ect.ect. The solution for the main charactor in that book was simply to live as close to a "mortal" as he could, and not become omniscient, but still retaining his Godlike power. So, I tend to do the same.

Re: Would you throw away your life, to live another?

I mean what constitutes a life? Personality, memories, friends, family, job, social standing? If I get to keep my personality and memories in exchange for becoming a god-like being (you never specified what this new life would be), then absolutely, no question. If I have to give up my self, then never.

Re: Would you throw away your life, to live another?

I suppose the only people you're going to get saying "yes" to this proposition are those of us who are already suicidal, those who don't care about their current lives. What you're asking is tantamount to the old Reincarnation belief: death, followed by new life in a different body without knowing your past life. Even if you find out about your past life, that knowledge is little more than triviality.

I think it would be much more fun for most of the non-suicidal to remain the same inside, and forced (or gifted) to change the outside. Give them the experience of working through the change with the people they already know.

BTW, having been suicidal for a very long time now, and deeply disappointed at how this shithole life is going, I still would. In a heartbeat. :-)

Hence why the "extra" clause to the question. which I felt would make it slightly better to grasp.
