If it's just supposed to be her being ripped open by an alien inside her, they did a really bad job of portraying that. What with her voice changing, and the fact that if the the thing is just digging it's way out, why didn't it just burst from her stomach instead of it's head forming behind her face.. and apparently making her skull and brains vanish magically in the process? Maybe they intended for it be some alien bursting from her, but what they have made is a weird little TF scene instead by doing it all wrong?

honest to god what type of normal non-paranoid person doesn't keep his farming equipment fully fueled in case he needs to fight off a alien invasion with it?

I think the alien inside her merged with her, rather then growing in to her. Because she was speaking Welsh later in the film and had the actress' voice. Albeit a little distorted.

Yeah it definitely seemed more the human skin became a husk, or the alien would of needed to remove the skull and ribs and stuff.

The roach TF from Nightmare on Elmstreet was pretty bad. As were any of the TF's from The Thing. Or the Gargoyle sequence from Tales From The Dark Side. There's a couple more, but I just can't think of them right now.
