Loz: Oot 3d
Ok, so I picked up my copy of Ocarina of Time 3D yesterday afternoon, and have been playing quite a bit. Enough to give a decent impression of it for those curious about it:
I will be comparing it to the N64 original. Gameplay: It feels exactly like the original. Naturally, the buttons are different to wok on a 3DS, but overall nothing is missing. Things like aiming using the motion control are actually really well done. By using the accelerometer on the 3DS you can easily fine tune aiming with items like the Bow or Slingshot making some of those harder to hit targets (such as during the bow/slingshot games) a cinch. There are a few tweaks and bug fixes, but even some of our old favorite glitches are still in the game. Sheikah stones are the one major addition to the main game. They show you hints on where to go next....useful to noobs to OOT. Also included in the game is a Boss Challenge mode and The Master Quest that was released on the GCN version...only this Master Quest is mirrored for extra awesome :P Graphics: It looks beautiful. Seeing video and still images on your PC do not do it justice. These videos/pics are not shown in their native resolution of the 3DS so they look a bit pixelated. This game is wonderfully colorful and smooth! The game runs at a perfectly smooth 30FPS with zero slowdown compared to the N64's 15-20 with slowdown on some of the more "intense" parts. Sound: Sound Effects are the same, probably a little clearer though. Music: To the untrained ear it would seem like its the original N64 score, but it is not. The entire soundtrack was redone but done in such a way that it would SOUND like the N64 score. The music is much more crisp, though. The reason behind this was that the composer had created an entire ORCHESTRATED score for the game, but Miyamoto told him he wanted the music to sound as close to the N64 version as possible. So he had to scrap all that he worked on and make a NEW version that would sound nearly identical to the N64...I really wish they would have allowed us to choose orchestrated or original, but meh. Overall, this is a nearly PERFECT remake/port of a nearly perfect game (c'mon you can't say anything really bad about OOT). If you own a 3DS, get this game...no excuses. But this game alone really isn't worth buying a 3DS if you don't already have one...but I'd recommend buying it anyway because I'm hearing whispers that it will only have a limited production....so even if you are getting your 3DS down the road (like within the year), it wouldn't hurt to snag a copy while you can :P

Re: Loz: Oot 3d
Yeah, i registered mine yesterday when i got it (about 11am pst).
The system is backlogged atm, and was buggy at first. You initially had to answer the survey after registering and then you would be prompted if you wanted the CD or not, but for a lot of people it would Error out when they clicked it. For others (like myself) the prompt never even showed up. Nintendo corrected this issue by removing the prompt, and ANYONE who registers by 12amPST tonight can get the soundtrack. They start shipping July 5th, for those who register.

Re: Loz: Oot 3d
the 3D is VERY well done. I play with it on Max 3D settings for the most part, but if you are using the accelerometer to aim you might want to turn it down (or off while aiming). If you don't the image can get wonky while you move the 3DS around to aim. OTHER THAN THAT it's awesome.

Re: Loz: Oot 3d
So, you have only until midnight tonight to register the game?
Also, does anyone have the specs for the CD? I've been told that the CD will have the complete soundtrack to OoT, but will it be the original N64 version, the "revised" 3DS version, or will it be remastered? |

Re: Loz: Oot 3d
Well, that's a freakin' shame.
Just a random question regarding the game, but does Ganondorf still cough up blood after his initial battle with Link. If so, what color is it? I've been told that later versions had green "blood", while the original game had red. A minor issue, I know, but I'm a little curious. |

LoZ:3D is a LIMITED production. They only did one pressing of the game and that is IT. It is very likely that a few years down the road (when demand has built from those who didn't get their copy) that Nintendo will release more OoT:3D AND a Majoras Mask 3D and see a lot of sales. Quote:
StarFox 64: 3D Luigis Mansion 2 (about time Weegee got some lovin'!) Super Mario 3D (it looks like it takes a page from SMB3) Paper Mario 3D (I think its a new one, not a remake) TWO Resident Evil games... the 3DS didn't have a stellar launch selection, but there are a lot of awesome games on their way.

Super Mario 3D looks like it came from an alternate world that never had a Super Mario 64. It looks like a sequel to Bubsy 3D. Finally tried out a 3DS demo unit at Best Buy and I can't believe they thought this 3D tech was good enough to ship. It's kind of a cute gimmick for all of the four seconds you can get it to stay focused at a time, but I was playing the Pilotwings demo and no matter what I could never see the floating rings in 3D. Never mind how pointless the 3D is in the first place. Everyone who is in any position to buy a 3DS has been watching projected images since they were children, be they games, TV, or movies, and the human brain is actually pretty damn good at seeing a 2D imagine and filling in the depth on its own.

What Nintendo is doing is pure genius: Make it "limited quantities" to build a demand, then reissue it later on ALONG with either a new LoZ or Majoras Mask. People will then snatch up both. Nintendo has actually done this in the past, as have other companies. This is absolutely NOTHING NEW. Its just like the Pheonix Wright series: Almost every single copy that Capcom ever made of those games has sold, yet they only made a very limited release of each one. I know how markets work....it's when something isn't around that EVERYONE wants it. I experience this first hand in my day to day job.... The 3D on the system works beautifully. I don't know what system you are playing but it must not be a properly working 3DS. The system has DEPTH, it does not jump off the screen at you. Rather it makes the screen into a window. I can remain focused on the 3D for hours on end without any issue, unless I'm using the accelerometers to aim like in LoZ. In cases like that I either close one eye, or quickly flick the 3D setting down. And when you really compare the 2D to 3D in this game it really makes a difference. Quote:
Oh and on the topic of other LoZ's for the 3DS: Miyamoto himself stated that he would like to see a Link to the Past remake done. And I'd like to think Nintendo would want to keep the Big M happy....

The DS never won because of its games. It won in spite of its games. It won because Nintendo went Blue Ocean strategy on it and it worked, big time. Same thing with the Wii. Tons of systems sold to tons of people who bought very few games.
