"Mortal Men and Women Defending Your Own World... [REVISED VERSION]

...in Mortal Kombat."

Hello all,

The latest story from my forge, and it's a mighty one. At 25 pages in length, it is my longest story to date.

And it's also set in my favorite universe: MORTAL KOMBAT!

Yep, more useless fanfiction. But I promise you, it's not just about a super version of my faceless-self kicking everyone's ass.

Nope, this story revolves around the events after the tenth tournament (the movie), after about 3-5 months. I had a little fun with the canon, however, and liberally mixed elements from the game series into the story.

As a result, there's a bit of craziness. Here are a few of the changes:

-Shang Tsung survives the tournament and flees. *Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was absolutely perfect as Shang Tsung, and that's how I will always see Shang Tsung as a character.*

-Scorpion under the control of Quan Chi, and not Shang Tsung. *The movie suggested both Sub-Zero and Scorpion were slaves under Shang Tsung's power. The games say neither is controlled by Shang, and Scorpion is controlled by Quan Chi. That's how I'm interpreting in the story.*

-Shang Tsung's island is given to the Edenians. *This was a non-canon ending for Kitana in MKvsDCU. I liked it, and I incorporated it into the storyline.*

-The rivalry between Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. *Never mentioned in the movie (for obvious reasons), but a theme in later games. I included it.*

-Sub-Zero is killed by Scorpion at the end of the tournament. *In the movie, Sub-Zero is killed by Lui Kang. In the games, he is killed by Scorpion. I'm going with the games on this point.*

-Reptile is humanoid. *Never cared for Reptile's "devolution" storyline. He's humanoid in this story, just like in the movie.*

-Jade is not asian. *In Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (terrible, btw), Jade was asian. Not so in my story. She resembles her MK 2011 video game look.*

Attached alonside the story is a roster of how I see the characters in my mind's eye. Each character's personality is based off who played them (in the movie) or how they behave in the games. Shang's restored island (as seen in MKvsDCU) is also pictured.

Also attached is a song from the movie's soundtrack...simply for nostalgia purposes. And yes, I am a nerd.

Ahhh, the 90's...how I miss you so.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the first chapter, and there's some nice process for those with the patience to read the entire story.

And if you've never seen Mortal Kombat (1995), then please do the followng:

1. Reevaluate your life.
2. Log on to Amazon.
3. Buy the movie ($5/new)
4. Select One-day shipping.
5. Read the Mortal Kombat Wiki while you wait.
6. Watch the movie.
7. ????
8. Profit.

Oh, and:

Obligatory Disclaimer: I do not own Mortal Kombat or anything related to Mortal Kombat. Nothing. Nada. It all belongs to Ed Boon, Netherrealm Studios, and Warner Brothers Entertainment.

EDIT: Added the fight scene between Scorpion vs Jade and Kitana!

Re: "Mortal Men and Women Defending Your Own World...

Took me some more time to read this then usual but I read it and loved it. Your writing is good Obsidian but if you hadn't given those immages and appearence orientations a reader unscholled in Mortal Kombat might get lost.
I myself never really touched much of MK since SNES but I played this new version and loved every bit of it to the point of even learning some of the story, but really, the TF is awesome but I feel like you could add a litle more enphasis on the actual fights, since that's what Mortal Kombat is all about.
I would love to see Liu Kang fighting dragon Kitana and Jade and Kitana trying to stop Scorpion. Not that the fights were bad, I just feel like they could have been a little longer.

Good point. The fight with Scorpion, Jade, and Kitana should have been more involved. I think when I wrote that scene I was SUPER tired, though. lol! I really just wanted to skip all the adjective-laced action, but you're right, it does kind of cheapen it considering that's what Mortal Kombat's known for.

Thank you, hexen. I think I'll go alter and add to that scene.

Mortal Kombat does require a little background knowledge, like most fanfiction. Hopefully folks who read it will become interested enough to learn a little more about it.

My thanks for reading, hexen. Sorry it took a little longer to read, but I hope it was enjoyable.

The sequel to this story will have a scene between Liu Kang and Kitana (and potentially Raiden), as the end of this story hinted at. And many more confrontations (and TF's) as well.

But, I'm not entirely sure who should be the next victim of Shang Tsung's new power...perhaps I'll hold a poll on that and see what the community wants.
