A few werewolf comics things

So I've started updating the monster girls wiki again sporadically, and because of that I've been checking in on comics again.

There's a comic starting up next year called Ferals. Based on the preview issue out now I'm putting 4:1 odds on the mysterious foreign woman in a red dress being the werewolf. If you want to go into the story fresh, however, I'd advise against reading any info online, because they are not shy about laying out who's going to die in the first two issues.

I'm not sure I want to mention this because it feels more like teasing, but back in 2008 Zenescope started publishing a mini-series by the name of Willow Creek. Issues #0 and 1 came out, but before issue 2 could come out the artist was hospitalized for a spinal tumor. Nether of those two issues had any information about the identity of the werewolf, but the cover of issue #2 hinted pretty heavily that there was a female werewolf. I haven't found any official statements about the comic since the artist's hospitalization, but since then he's only done covers, so he might have never fully recovered.

Small update: I haven't actually been able to read Ferals #1 or #2 (no money and no one's scanned them) but based on the ish #2 preview I was wrong about the woman is red being the werewolf. It looks like the identity of the werewolf is going to remain a secret until at least issue 4.

Re: A few werewolf comics things

Another Ferals update: still no reveal as to the werewolf's identity, still no transformations, and I still have no idea what is going on. On one hand, I think the issue 4 preview revealed that there is an entire village of werewolves; on the other hand it seems likely that, if any of them turn into wolves, it will exclusively be the men, and more likely will be only the male lead character.

This comic is really holding its cards close to its chest, but if you like splatterpunk and don't want to read Crossed then this is probably the best comic on the market for that.

Re: A few werewolf comics things

Just to keep this updated Ferals is still ongoing, and there's still been very little transformation of any kind in it. The first story arc ended without any of the possible werewolves transforming. I'm still not sure if its even possible for women to become werewolves in this series, based on its version of lycanthropy.

So on the one hand, if its even possible for the transmission to go from male to female, then its possible that the main character's new partner is now infected. Also at the end of the most recent issue the protagonist stumbled upon a whole band of transformed werewolves, and it would be kind of odd if those were all male.

On the other hand its also possible that those were actually wolves who had been turned into werewolves, as that might fit this series' mythology. Also the series is (to no great surprise considering Avatar's money series is Crossed) way more focused on people dying bloody, splashy deaths than anything else. I'll keep checking in on it though, because its still not trashy enough for me to drop (like zenescope's entire catalogue)

Been meaning to mention this but recent IDW series called Night of 1,000 Wolves. About town being attacked by wolves as the main characters dad had promised his soul. I won't spoil much last issue #3 does feature a transformation scene.

Not a very good one though... I just looked for it and was very disappointed. Her hand changed a bit, then she vomited and she was suddenly a werewolf.

Re: A few werewolf comics things

Thanks for mentioning 1000 Wolves. I'd dropped that after the first ish because I'd thought it was about actual undead wolves, and nothing of the man-wolf variety. I guess I should know by now what when a mini-series says it's like 'nothing I'd ever seen before' what they mean is it's exactly like everything I've seen before.

I know it's not great. I have seen worse but I just wanted to mention it.

Don't know if it's been mentioned before but there's a comic about a community of werewolves called Peter is the Wolf

Re: A few werewolf comics things

So 10 issues in I think it's safe to drop Ferals. Women are technically werewolves in it, but they're just carriers of the curse and can't transform. All the sex and violence has finally gotten cartoonish enough that I don't really want to keep reading it anymore.

In totally unrelated news, the most recent ish of Swamp Thing has revealed that, in the Rotworld future, Barbara Gordon has, somehow, become that universe's version of Manbat.
