Re: Beach Blanket Beauties Part Two
Those who regressed have to turn back to normal and vice versa.
That?s what the reader exactly expects from happening in this sequel. The only question is: HOW? Let?s start with the drawings. Palcomix did a wonderful job on the drawings. I dare to say that they have even improved by using the shadowing on the characters. This increases not only the quality but also let the characters appear more lively and dynamic. What I also really appreciate are the details they put into the feet and legs. The only thing I have to criticize is the kind of laziness by forgetting to draw the faces at page 7. It is only at one panel but still a very obvious one. Maybe one minor thing is that Frank looks somehow different than we know him from the previous comics. And since when does he has black hair? Besides that, the drawing and characters are fantastic! Also the perspectives of the character are great and fit to the situation. This makes the comic not getting boring for a singly moment. To the story: Little Marilyn and Suzy are the mercy of adult Mandy. Forced to obey Mandy meekly, they try to become adults again. I liked the idea by asking an adult to solve their problem. I only wished this great idea had been build more out in detail instead of being told that swiftly. Probably I shouldn?t complain too much of the logic, since AR/AP are not possible and alone this fact makes none sense at all to change a persons age. However, few things are weird to me. At Suzy?s first growth burst, it seems that she became instantly an adult again, just to see her some pages later as a teenager. Explaining it with a yo-yo effect would have been nice, pending between these two ages until she becomes adult again. If they could easily go back the way home by foot, why didn?t they do that in the fist place? Mandy was too busy with the boys anyway. They could simply run and try finding a way to become adults again. And why didn?t Marilyn get a growth spurt? She got the same dose as Suzy. Why does the AR-raygun also works to shrink people? Well, the shrinking part was unnecessary and on some panels, I was not sure if Mandy is a pre-teen or an adult again. It would have been fun letting her in her adult self, but nonetheless, I?ve enjoyed it. Like said before, I shouldn?t put too much sense into the logic. Summary: Beach Blanket 2 is a great comic with some fresh ideas. It has lots of nice process and the character interactions are fun to read. Some might complain that the story lacked of a few more sites, but I think it is just okay. A few more pages wouldn?t make much difference. Captain Ash
