I don't see why turning into a rabbit should be less shocking or painful than turning into any other animal. When it's happening the person isn't going to know or even understand that they're turning into anything specific. They just know they're changing and it shouldn't be happening and they can't stop it. When someone just seems to suddenly become aware of exactly what's happening and knows exactly what animal they're becoming it tends to ruin the scene. "oh no I'm turning into a <insert animal>" is a horrible line to read. Worse yet is "oh joy I'm turning into a <insert animal>". It shouldn't happen, they shouldn't know what's going on and they shouldn't like it. AWIL wasn't good because David liked being a werewolf, he didn't enjoy turning into one, and it wouldn't have set the bar so high for transformation scenes if he had.

Part of what I liked about the donkey TF is that she never acknowledged what she was becoming or even hinted that she knew what the end result would be. She was reacting to a series of impossible things happening to her body but it was never indicated that she'd put the pieces together in her head that she was actually transforming into a donkey. I didn't like the pig TF because; she wanted to be a pig, and she liked it and she let the audience know all that the entire time. It would ruin the scene if that happened again.
