I saw the face thing as artistic stylings. I see that in some Japanese comics all the time. *shrugs* Given the rest of the work put in, I can't believe it was simple laziness or lack of editing. That's a huge thing to miss and not much work to add faces.

I had the same questions of continuity and internal story logic.
Ah well.
