Re: Best Stephen King horror/thriller movie?

Hard choice, but, I have 20, and this is NOT a top 20 list, just I have 20 faves

1.Creepshow
2.Christine
3.Sleepwalkers
4.The Stand
5.The Shining (1997 Mini-Series)
6.Maximum Overdrive (directed by King himself)
7.Pet Semetary
8.Desperation
9.The Mist
10.1408
11.The Dead Zone (Because of Walken's performance)
12.Firestarter
13.Carrie
14.Misery
15.Dreamcatcher
16.Children of the Corn
17.Apt Pupil
18.The Langoliers
19.The Dark Half
20.IT

Others would include and I guess these are honorable mentions in a way, because some of these are more or less drama or contained a story based on a King story

Creepshow 2 (The Raft was the only one based on a King story, the other 2 were written by George A. Romero)
Tales from the Darkside: The Movie ("The Cat From Hell")
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Stand by Me
The Running Man (Based on a novel King wrote under his Richard Bachman pseudonym)

And then to pan it out, the worse King adaptations in my opinion

'Salem's Lot
Thinner
Rose Red
Carrie (2002 TV-Movie)
Sometimes They Come Back
Cat's Eye
The Tommyknockers

Sorry I forgot to include Needful Things, just have never seen it, and as for me not including the 1979 version of 'Salem's Lot, well, Tobe Hooper deviated so much from his source material, that it was almost an original idea

The Stand, no doubt about it. It's one of my favorite King movies/series.

Re: Best Stephen King horror/thriller movie?

If Misery can be called a horror movie, then that'd be my vote. The Stand was watchable, and I actually wound up reading it afterwards where they had a copy of it sitting out at a local coffee shop. I think they must have made a couple of hundred off me on that book alone.

Aside from non-horror movies like Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption, asking what the best King horror movie is... is a lot like asking me what insect bites I've enjoyed the most, or which of my bones did I enjoy breaking the most. The majority of theatrical releases based on King books or short stories have been steaming piles of dung, even if directed by Kubrick instead of Carpenter.

The stand and the dark tower series but in fact oi like almost all of his works. Only most of movie adpations were teribble.

Only one i really like are shining (nicholson is great in it), green mile (very emotional) and IT. Oh and petcemetery is not bad. It was my first horor movie and gave me quite some nightmares that day.
