I hate this. Not Obama winning, but now the most idiotic parts of people come loose.

I'm not taking sides here, but I honestly wish people would just get over Obama winning and accept it. -_-

I'm wondering when you'll open your eyes and takes facts into account before jumping on extreme bandwagons and reciting baseless claims of overly optimistic outcomes that you can't predict because you failed the first step in doing so which was taking facts into consideration.

Facts:

Politicians tell you what you want to hear in cleverly worded statements that allow them for wiggle room so they can say what everyone wants, then do something similar but not quite the same and say it was the only way, or that [insert scapegoat here] wouldn't allow them to keep their promise due to pressure.

The war in Iraq is far from over, many more will die, many more will still lose their lives fighting in place of the over paid Iraqi government which is reluctant to take control of their own country. Some troops will return home yes but they will not all be shipped back on January 21 the day after Obama takes office. Many will remain to maintain the peace in that country until the government there takes their place with their own soldiers which will take quite some time I'm sure.

The war in Afghanistan has also got a long ways to go. As in Iraq, terrorists and militant groups are seizing control of many areas and preaching general violence against the rest of the world. It's that sad truth that these groups are taking innocent young men and wiping them into a frenzy directing all their misplaced anger on people these groups claim to be their religious enemies. They have them believe their causes are pure and just holy missions meaning their fighters aren't just some "evil bad guy" these are young men who won't just sit back after the American and NATO troops leave but rather continue to take out their aggression on the rest of the world after we withdraw as the people who got them so worked up in the first place send them out into the "world of the infidels" to carry on the holy mission. Until these people are stopped from warping the young minds of any country there will be a need for troops in these countries.

Obama's policies and ideas for stimulating this economy are risky some of which seem a little to optimistic. He was still a better choice than McCain (opinion not fact) But that doesn't mean he's the "right choice". He is in the precarious situation of being the first black president, a fact that he needs to overcome. In the end he needs to be remembered for his actions in office first and the fact he was the first black president second. It would be a sad state of affairs if the first thing the history books refer to him as "the first black president" as apposed to some accomplishment he pioneered in office.

To call him true change or a new era for the white house is also going to far. He may have different beginnings but he shares many similarities with McCain and all other politicians. He was in Skull and Cross Bones, he's played the politics game for years, he's the figure head, the democratic face his party picked based more on his charm and appeal rather than who he is as a person.

Most presidential elections are like being offered fruit, you can't have the fruit you want but you can pick from the two they offer you.

I peg you as the kind of person who called bush evil or said he's only in it for the oil. Fact (opinion) is Bush was a dumb patsy figure head acting in Cheney's, his father's, and numerous members of the republican party's place. Calling him evil just makes you the kind of mindless nutcase who has few opinions of their own and just repeat the popular shouts of others in your party/ political niche.

I'm sorry for coming off as insulting here but your blind following of popular opinion and over reaction to people disagreeing with you by labling them as generic republican slander is the reason this country is in bad shape, same goes for republicans who do it to the left and democrats. We're becomign a nation of Rush Limbaugh's who just spout nonsense and call it hard evidence then shut our ears to anyone who tries to disagree with us.

If you want to argue with me on any of these points feel free but leave the slander out of it and please don't just give me optimistic outcomes of Obama being president.

did I not say I was being insulting? What you think I don't know I was being rude in my denoucment of people who act like I claimed he was behaving like?

Besides I at least apologized for my rudeness, not much good after the fact but at least I admit I have a loose tounge about this matter.

A. its resonable REdeployment

Right- and if McCain had won, he would have us stay 100 years IF there would be no casualties....like that would ever happen in Iraq.

Re: Obama won! And that means...

What a stupid fuck you are - Iraqi insurgents are composed of 90% non-Iraqis - 97% of all civilian deaths in Iraq are at the hands of these MUSLIM non-Iraqi insurgents. the death rate in Iraq is less than Chicago's. 85% of Iraqi civilians want American troops to remain for at least another 5 years to see the mission through. Get your head out of Rosie O'Donnells fat cunt before you start running your simian mouth.

Now that your precious McCain lost, this "war" (read: massacre) will be over and all the US troops will go home.

No longer will US troops butcher innocent Muslim women and children!

No longer will Muslim people fear living in the US, victims of xenophobia and paranoia!

No longer will innocent Muslim civilians stay in home for fear of being shot by US troops!

Finally, the greatest military debacle since Vietnam will be over!

Re: Obama won! And that means...

In agreement to the post above, and in explanation of my post earlier in this thread, there are some things that people say with complete disregard to the facts and to the opinions of other people.

The fact that you would debase my sacrifice in going to Iraq and fighting there to saying that I was part of a xenophobic massacre just infuriates me. Admittedly, my other post was perhaps a little too aggressive, but you know, you say things like that, and all I can think of are the friends of mine who were blown to tiny little bits by IED's, or the one friend who was shot in the back of the head only a month away from coming home. You know, when I saw him, his brains were coming out of his mouth. I listened to a man I didn't even know burn to death inside of a Humvee because we couldn't get the doors open to save him. Fortunately, there was a rocket in the trunk that eventually detonated and ended his suffering.

Not that things like that don't happen to Iraqi's as well, but I can assure you that I and the others in the US military go to great lengths, often exposing ourselves to more risk, to avoid killing innocent civilians. I promise you. Though I'm sure that this post did not have the desired effect on you, I do hope that it made you pause for just a moment. I am not a murderer, I still have pictures on my computer of two little Iraqi girls I gave candy to while on patrol. They smiled and jumped up and down like it was the greatest gift they'd ever gotten! Just because you join the military doesn't mean you lose your conscience. It just means that you learn to temper your emotions in order to keep yourself alive.

So far as I know, there have never been any videos of Americans cutting the heads off of insurgent prisoners with pocket knives. But it's standard procedure for them. I know personally one man who was victim of that, and it happened to almost 20 men in the seven months that I was there. Just something to think about.
