At best, you're simply breaking the game's EULA about six different ways. At worst, you're using stolen/reverse-engineered goods. Either way, not really a great idea.

Re: um ok......weres...

Problem is, when its tied to the game, those things stand, when they try and dictate what you do when you are NOT playing the actual game on their servers, things get a bit more foggy as they have no actual right to stop you from doing things with the client outside of their server, as long as you dont try to commercially profit from it.

But if lore doesnt like it, he doesnt like it, and thats the end of that, its pretty easy to find info though if you really want, just not on this site.

The legality of a private server itself is an open question. I didn't read the entire EULA, but I did get the important parts. However, you agree to not use their software to connect to anything that "attempts to emulate" their service as soon as you installed it. I believe it's not only stated in the EULA, but in the Terms of Service too, which the EULA forces you to accept.

Pretty much legally open and shut. It's their baseball, and if you want to play with it, you have to play by their rules. The server? Eh, may or may not be legal. Using Blizzard's software to connect to that server? Breach of agreement, with the agreement stating that you can be held legally responsible if they decide to pursue it.

So, once again, I have no problems with private servers. My problem is with this "information wants to be free and there can't be anything legally wrong with my playing a subscription based game for free" attitude. I also think it's irresponsible to let anyone believe they aren't breaking the law when they quite simply are.

Ok well heres the problem with this whole theory your not " on " there servers there for its fine to do whatever you want furthermore if your not "on there servers" they have no sayso and how could you possibly ever be "found out" that your on a priv server is what im gitting at here yea it MAY be "illegal"
to "connect" to a priv server useing there software but whos gana know is the thing......and 1 last thing even if you magicly somehow got ..found out.. you were doing this not going over a bridge here but what is a GAME company gana throw you in jail over pretty much nothing? that makes me laugh i dout it if not then who cares anyway...

Sure, they might also charge a fine but its not like it whould be some GIANT amount or somin, so as a conclusion i really dont see what everyone is gitting so worked up for beats me. cause the chance of gitting thrown in jail or charged a fine from somin this stupid is probly about 10,000 to 1

Simple. Server owner gets nailed, forced to hand over logs. Oh look, there's your IP address with an account active on the server and everything!

Corrections in bold.

EULA states "Failure to comply with the restrictions and limitations contained in this Section 4 shall result in the immediate, automatic termination of the license granted hereunder and may subject you to civil and/or criminal liability." That means you're not allowed to use their software as soon as you break the EULA, on risk of civil (pay a fine) or even criminal (jail time) liability. And as a friendly reminder, you agreed to those terms when you ran the installer, not when you connected to Blizzard's servers.

In closing, you obviously know where the period is on the keyboard. Please use it for something besides an unnecessary ellipsis. And you're breaking the law. Stop this bullshit attitude of "I'm invincible, no one can find out and it's perfectly okay!" That attitude makes you the one most likely to get caught.
