Fallout 3 & Dead Space

Did I miss the general chat in the forum about them?

Fallout 3 I thought was kind of disappointing. I played the first game... and this is fairly faithful to the universe but... eh, just not compelling.

Dead Space by contrast was very much more than I was led to believe and of course, it's a big ol' multimedia experience with the "action" comics and the anime (which is hilariously violent).

Re: Fallout 3 & Dead Space

My big complaint about Fallout 3, and I'm not alone here, was the whole issue with the 'ending'. What's the point of making an evil character and having them die a 'hero'?

Eh, I like Fallout 3...
... A lot.
Barely started but it's got that atmosphere to it.
First Fallout game I've ever played too.
...
And I might play the other Fallout games... *doesn't want to be butchered by rabid Fallout fans*

I believe there are four variations on the ending... Not all of them make you a big god damned hero...

There is a good deal of atmosphere to Fallout 3... but, as I said - I feel that it's not really that far from Half-Life 2 or Gears of War in the destroyed city ruins... the wastelands feel more authentic... but really, I just don't feel that there's a whole lot underpinning the pretty bleakness. Which is my quarrel.

Well, I live in Maryland, so, I'm going ahead and saying they NAILED the bleak look of DC and such, especially in the Metro, I've been there a few times, so it feels really, really, eerie.

Re: Fallout 3 & Dead Space

I loved Fallout 3. Not because I liked the previous games, but because I liked Oblivion, a similar game made by the same company. I didn't like how the game actually ENDED after beating the main quest, but to me that is but a minor setback.

As for Deadspace, I think it can compete with Doom in it's jumpy-scary action, though I have never played through the whole thing. I did enjoy the cartoon movie, though I thought the animation could've been better.

All in all, I think both are wonderous games! But that's just my own opinion.

And so says Mr. Bitches.

You don't end the game as a hero, you end it as a legend.

What? Dead Space is underrated, but certainly not Fallout. It's all over the damn place. I'd actually say that Fallout is somewhat overrated.

Re: Fallout 3 & Dead Space

I checked my suspicions on the subject and there are in fact four variations on the ending of the main quest - purely down to player choice.

And I was a fan of Oblivion too but Fallout 3 didn't compare favourably for me. TES fans will bemoan that Oblivion was in itself a dumbing down of Morrowind... but it still offered you the 4 fairly substantial guild quests outside the main quest. Fallout 3 had the Wasteland Survivor guide (which I liked) and what... You Gotta Shoot 'Em In The Head? Which was really only a long quest because you had to go to fairly distant locations.

But, naturally - I understand that I've got different expectations to other people.

Anyway, looks like there's going to be a lil' bit more Fallout 3 with the downloadable content in March.

Re: Fallout 3 & Dead Space

I thoroughly enjoyed the Dead Space storyline (despite having finished the game itself). Heard EA is going to make sequel. Apparently a comic book and an animated film aren't enough. Who can blame 'em, considering Dead Space didn't sell as well as they hoped on release, from what I hear.

Couldn't get into Fallout 3. For me, a game slows down to a stop when I have to pick dialogue in every scene.
